Until his resignation
from the Carter Adminis-
tration in March, Dr. Siegel
played an important role in
government. He was execu-
tive director of the Demo-
cratic National Committee
from 1975 to 1977. As a
member of the personnel
advisory group of the
Carter-Mondale transition
he was responsible for the
preparation of detailed can-
didate review books for
Cabinet positions for the
President's review. Of the
41 books produced by the
group, he personally com-
pleted 23.
Dr. Siegel was the
Presidential representative
on the fact finding mission
to Egypt and Israel coincid-
ing with Sadat's visit to
Jerusalem, November,
1977. He traveled inten-
sively, visiting different
Jewish groups throughout
the U.S. in order to explain
the President's position in
respect to Israel and the
Middle East. He addressed
the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion of Detroit in February.

'Give Tree Gifts
for Mother's Day'

Mark E. Schlussel,
president of the Greater De-
troit Jewish National Fund,
has urged buyers of
Mother's Day gifts to con-
sider giving trees.
"Mother's Day this year is
on the same date that Israel
declared its independence
30 years ago. The trees
planted for Mother's Day
will also be an expression of
gratitude for the rebirth of
the Jewish state," Schlussel
said.
To plant trees, call the
JNF, 968-0820.
