THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, May 5, 1978 15 Hasidic Songs Certain to Delight "Chabad Nigunim" is so delightful a recording of Hasidic songs that it adds to the multiplicity of achiev- ments of the Lubavitch and their followers. They do many things, the Lubavitch. They have enchanted many youth, are establishing centers in uni- versity towns as they did in Ann Arbor for University of Michigan students, and one of their most recent contri- butions to the Jewish home `Israel Prevents New Holocaust' NEW YORK (JTA) — Is- raeli Premier Menahem Begin declared that the "in- dependent, free state of Is- rael" which "rose out of the ashes" of the Holocaust will prevent anyone from ever again trying to destroy the Jewish people. He pledged that the Jewish people will remain united, Israel will keep prepared and able to defend itself and that the Jewish state will continue to seek peace. Begin made his declara- tion at a memorial service commemorating the 35th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising and the six million Jews who were murdered by the Nazis. The service was held at Temple Emanu-El here where he came directly after arriving in New York from Israel. The annual event, attended by thousands in- side and outside the synagogue on Fifth Avenue, was sponsored by the War- saw Ghetto Resistance Organization (WAGRO) in conjunction with many major Jewish organiza- tions.• German Groups Hit Passion Play BONN (JTA) — The Munich, Augsburg and Re- gensburg (Bavarian) branches of Germany's Association for Christian- Jewish Cooperation have appealed to the Town Coun- cil of Oberammergau to re- consider its decision to go ahead with the staging of the controversial Passion Play based on the anti- Semitic text written in 1860. The Council's decision over-turned a decision by the previous Council last February to proceed with plans for a different version of the play written in 1750. was the publications of a truly enriching cookbook under the title "Spice and Spirit of Kosher Jewish Cooking." Recipes and regu- lations fill the pages of this large book. Now comes another mark of continuity in Lubavitch activities, the appearance of another of the movement's record- ings. "Chabad nigunim" is a collection of songs performed by the Chabad Choir, a nation- ally functioning group. It is accompanied by an or- chestra directed by Seymour Silberman. Eli Liosker is the consultant. Cantor Moshe Tele- shevsky and P. Sokolov pro- vided direction and musical settings. The songs in this record include "Ata Ha-Keil," "Torah Tziva Banu," "Ni- gun Simha," "Nigun L'Shabat V'Yom Tov," "Hs7gmir Bisjvahim," "Tal Ya' sis," and others. There are several Nigunei Simha and the humming and solos, the im- pressiveness of the youth section of the choir, the spirit injected, combine to give power to musical selec- tions sung not by profes- sionals but by religiously inspired people. The Lubavitch have a right to be proud of their newest addi- tion to their spiritual creativity. Late Night Haircut, Permanent, Facial or Tint?
