Maj. Gen. Mordecai Gur,
former chief of staff of the
Israel Defense Forces, and
Ohela Halevy, Israeli
folksinger, will be among
the speakers and
entertainers who will be in
Detroit for the Israel Expo
1978, May 11 - 13 at the
main Jewish Community
Center, sponsored by the
Detroit Zionist Federation,
the Center, Jewish Com-
munity Council and the
Jewish Educators Council.
Maj. Gen. Gur will speak
7:30 p.m. May 11 in the
Center. He served with the
Negev Brigade of the Pal-
mah during Israel's war of
independence, and after the
war he volunteered for serv-
ice with NAHAL. He served
in the Paratroop Corps, was
wounded in action and
awarded a commendation.
In the Sinai Campaign he
commanded a paratroop
unit of NAHAL. In 1957, he
was appointed deputy com-
mander of the Paratroop
Corps.

Ross House-to-House Campai
for August Senate Nomination

Douglas Ross, who al-
ready has a long record of
service with government
agencies, has announced his
candidacy for the Demo-
cratic nomination for the
Michigan State Senate in
the 15th District.
Declaring that he favors
effective legislation to re-
late to the conflict of inter-
est issue, Ross filed with
municipal clerks declara-
tions on his own and his
wife's holdings.

He said, "It's the best in-
surance of straightforward

public service for the public
and a candidate that I can
imagine. The public can re-
view my positions on public
issues and my personal fi-
nances to assure themselves
that there are no inappro-
priate conflicts of interest."
Ross' disclosure con-
formed with a bill pend-
ing in the state House.

Miss Halevy, a folksinger
who performs in several
languages, will entertain at
an Israeli cabaret 9:30 and
11 p.m. May 13. Featured on
the program with her will
be the Kol Yisrael
Ensemble.
Miss Halevy is the daugh-
ter of Moshe Halevy, foun-
der of the first Hebrew thea-
ter in Israel — the Ohel
Theater. She has
entertained troops in action
in the Negev and has re-
corded many record albums.
The Expo is a three-day
communal celebration of
the 30th anniversary of Is-
rael's independence. Events
include an Israeli trade fair,
cabaret, film festival, fash-
ion show and creative arts
festival. Among the
entertainers will be an Is-
raeli dance troupe, belly
dancers, magicians and
vocalists.
There is a charge for the
cabaret.

From 1961 to 1963 he
was commanding officer
of the Golani Brigade and
was in charge of the op-
eration at Nukaib. He has
held, among others, a
senior appointment on
the general staff and was
in charge of the Com-
mand and Staff College.

Research Into MS

group aiding multiple
sclerosis research, will have
a fund-raising games party
8 p.m. Monday at the South-
field Civic Center. Admis-
sion is free, and the public is
invited. Wheelchair ramps
are available.

`Freedom' Group
to Meet Sunday

The Individual Freedom

Foundation will meet 2 p.m.
Sunday at Temple Beth
Jacob, Pontiac. The group is
comprised of families who
have members involved in
cults, such as the Moonies
and Hare Krishna. In
terested persons are in-
vited.
