• JNF Director Kaplan to be Cited Percy Kaplan, who will be honored "for his 25 years of dedicated service to the Jewish National Fund" as executive director of the Greater Detroit and Michi- gan region, has devoted his entire adult life to Jewish causes. Kaplan, who will be hon- ored 6:30 p.m. May 10 at the Zionist Cultural Center, is a native of Winnipeg. He was educated at the University of Manitoba, St. Johns Col- lege and at the Winnipeg Hebrew Schools. He was a leader of the Canadian Young Judea, founder of the youth di- vision of the Canadian Jewish Congress and active in the reorganization of the Toronto YMHA. He was the librarian of the Dr. Herzl Public Li- brary in Winnipeg and Young Judea Library in Toronto. He was execu- tive secretary of the Western Canadian Zionist Organization. Kaplan edited the Jewish Post in Winnipeg and the Jewish Standard in Toronto and was a staff member of the Daily Yiddish Press in Toronto. He came to. Chicago in 1943 and joined that city's Jewish Federation and Jewish Welfare Fund. Kaplan also was the director of fund raising at the Chicago Med- ical School and was affil- iated with the Israel Bond Organization of Chicago. Closer ties with synagogues and temples were maintained, a youth program was started and lawyers' receptions were conducted.
