The group includes recent
immigrants, Nshei Chabad
Lubavitch Women's Organ-
ization and other volun-
teers.
FREE maintains an ongo-
ing "parent" contact with
some 40 families; provides
scholarships for children to
attend the Lubavitch Camp
Gan Israel, which has a
Russian-speaking coun-
selor; encourages the im-
migrants to send their chil-
dren to the local day schools;
aids immigrants with
interest-free loans and in-
getting visas for relatives
remaining in the Soviet
Union.
FREE also has helped
some of the immigrants
get jobs; provided Shal-
lakh Manot packages on
Purim and provided dis-
hes and other assistance
for Pesach through
Lubavitch; and has
helped arrange for Brit
Mila for 20-30 immig-
rants.
Pamphlets in Russian
and Hebrew on Jewish reli-
gious observance, provided
by FREE in New York, are
also distributed.
The organization recently
made an appeal for funds,
but emphasized it has no
connection with the Mo'Os
Hitim organization, which
distributes food packages
for Passover.
Alex Ehrman, chairman
of FREE, said the group is
not formally tied to
Lubavitch, but receives
much support, including
volunteers, from that
organization.

Marsha Oslan, Solomon
Oslan, Michael Shorr and
Clara Stulberg.

anonymous donor, as well
as certificates attesting to
their new Hebrew names.
The party was sponsored
by Dr. Arnold Zuroff, Morris
Flatt and Norman Cottler.
Some of the Russian
Jews told stories of the
danger of having a "bris"
in Russia, although sev-
eral had an "under-
ground" bris by going
through a secret mohel.
Locally, the immigrants
who seek ritual circumci-
sion are aided by Sinai Hos-
pital, United Jewish
Charities and the Jewish
Family Service. Many of the
immigrant children attend
Yeshivath Beth Yehuda.

Ketuba Festival
NEW YORK — A
"Ketuba Festival," featur-
ing Jewish marriage con-
tracts by contemporary cal-
ligraphers, will be held at
the Yeshiva University
Museum on May 14.
The festival ties in to the
museum's current exhibi-
tion, "The Jewish Wed-
ding," which runs until
June. The show includes
costumes, silver, paintings,
and a collection of 90 illus-
trated marriage contracts
from Jewish communities
throughout the world.
