Hirschmann, a former vice president of Bloomingdale's and Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, is an author and lecturer on Middle East affairs. President of Wolverine Hide Corp., in 1968 he liq- uidated his business and taught government for three years at Creston High School. He was appointed to the City Commission in March 1971, gave up his teething career, and since that time has devoted full time to city government. In November 1975 he was elected mayor for a four- year term. Mayor Drasin is the foun- der and president of the Na- tional Hide Association; a Federal appointee to the U.S. National Defense Executive Reserve; a member of Grand Rapids Community Relations Commission and the boards of directors, University of Michigan Hillel Foundation and the Grand Rapids Urban League. He is chair- man, National Council of the Joint Defense Appeal and chairman, Grand Rapids Fair Employment Practices Committee.
