Prof. in New York since 1939 until his retirement in 1972, Dr. Churgin was graduated from the Teachers Institute in Jerusalem in 1923 and re- ceived a Doctor of Philos- ophy degree at Johns Hop- kins University in Balti- more in 1939. The Russian-born scholar also taught at the Herzlia Hebrew Teachers Institute in New York, Touro College and Vassar College. He was the author of "Horizons of Thought" and "Currents in Modern Philosophy." Dr. Churgin also received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Columbia University in 1928 and a Master of Arts degree there in 1930. NEW YORK — Dr. Ger- shon A. 'No Brand' Items at Farmer Jack Farmer Jack Supermar- kets introduced "No Brand" brands of grocery items in all 80 of its outlets Monday. The "No Brand" brands at Farmer Jack come pack- aged with plain black and white labels with red trim. In the case of peas, for example, the front of the label simply says "Garden Sweet Peas" and the back side contains nutritional in- formation. Farmer Jack will intro- duce its "No Brand" labels on nine much-used house- hold items. They are canned peas, green beans, corn, grapefruit juice, fruit punch, catsup, apple sauce, fabric softener and liquid dish detergent. Other "No Brand" items will be added in the future. In one other case, the investiga- tion was unable to deter- mine who was responsible. The report of the police probe into its conduct, sub- mitted to the Knesset's Interior Committee, flatly rejected charges by some of the survivors that the police fired indiscriminately when the bus was halted at a roadblock just north of Tel Aviv, killing terrorists and their victims alike. This was refuted by autopsy re- ports. They booby-trapped the bus with high explosives which were detonated by a hand grenade thrown by one of the terrorists 15 seconds before he left the bus, the report said. One victim, Haviv El- khaveh, was shot in the back as he left the bus hold- ing a sheet of white paper as a sign of surrender. Accord- ing to one survivor he was shot by a policeman. But the police accepted the account of his wife who said he was shot by a woman terrorist. The report conceded that it was difficult to distin- guish the hostages from the terrorists. Eitan said the police could not have reacted differently because they were convinced that the terrorists were not in- terested in bargaining but in killing as many Israelis as they could. Begin's Heart Is Given OK JERUSALEM (JTA) — Premier Menahem Begin underwent four hours of in- tensive heart checkups at Jerusalem's Hadassah Hos- pital last week and was pro- nounced "a healthy man" at the end of them. The tests had been announced a day in advance to allay fears and speculation. Begin was struck by a major heart attack last May, soon after his election victory, and suffered further complications dur- ing the summer. But since then he has been in good health.
