Members of the group expressed support for Israel's policies, and suggested that a greater ef- fort should be made in Is- rael's information cam- paigns overseas. In the one-hour meeting with the Premier, Begin conceded that an improve- ment was necessary in Is- rael's information drives. Members of the group re- jected news reports that they came to criticize the government's policy or that they came in opposition to other leaders of the Ameri- can Jewish community. They spoke of unity in Jewish ranks, despite the existing difficulties. Due to the short time Begin shared with the group Tuesday, a second meeting was scheduled for the group on Thurs- day. Joseph said that the Arabs had threatened to re- taliate against American interests if the legislation was passed. However, the Arabs were "realists," and their threats had "proved empty," referring to Egypt's recent decision to renew links with the Coca Cola Company, even though it is still blacklisted. Two other witnesses at the committee, who spoke of the impact of the boycott on Britain, said Britain had been "a will- ing victim." Terence Prit- tie and Walter Nelson an- swered questions about their recent book, "The Economic War Against the Jew;," which traces the origins of the Arab boycott of Israel and its wider effects. Earlier, Joseph had told Anglo-Jewish leaders that .nless they fought for anti- boycott legislation they would be "overwhelmed" by the Arab oil weapon and isolated like German Jewry in the 1930s. Meanwhile, in Holland, the parliament is opening hearings into the com- pliance of Dutch firms with the boycott.
