Our Sincerest

Wishes For A

HAPPY
PASSOVER

TO ALL OUR FRIENDS
From The

BOTTLE ST,
BASKET SHOPS

For example, the Mon-
days in June will be
Jewish cooking by
Norma Stein.

Housewives and amateur
chefs are accepting the Con-
tinental Cuisine School of
Cooking with arms wide
open . . . The mysteries
they didn't know about can
finally be learned in what
are mostly four-week
periods ... Making pastries
is only a two-week ses-
sion . . . and this, my
friends, is a real art.

LIKE GYPSY music?

. If so, don't miss the
Gypsy Concert and all
those violins, May 7, at the
Governor's Hungarian Vil-
lage in Flat Rock ... Din-
ner at 5:30 and show at 8:30.
EVEN THOUGH it is
crowded every night, there
are still some people who
call Chuck Joseph's Place
For Steak on 12 Mile and
Coolidge and ask when it is
going to open . . . Chuck
and Dorothy have had their
new spot (other is on Grand
River near Outer Drive)
teeming with action over a
month already.
A huge three-way lighted
sign will soon be put on the
corner .. . and the land-
scaping will begin very
shortly ... Chuck Joseph's
Place For Steak seats 144
for dining ... and 41 more
in the cocktail lounge and at
a piano bar ... both places
where hungry people can
have dip snacks to tide them
over until a table is
available ... No reserva-
tions are accepted.

KNOCKWURST AND
BEANS doesn't sound like

gourmet dish ... but

when a person is in the
mood for some, nothing con-
jured up by the world's
finest chefs could take its
place . . . Knockwurst and
beans plus the ends of
Jewish rye bread make a
dish that has no equal when
this is what one wants ...
and no place but at a
delicatessen can it be gotten
better ... Our mouths
watered for it recently and
without hesitation, our
brain had motivated this
body into driving over to
Esquire Delicatessen in
Harvard Row for a very
satisfying bit of
enjoyment . . . Must have
looked good to two other
couples ... they also or-
dered knockwurst and
beans with much pleasure.

THE TIME IS NEAR

closing and a song stylist
has been at the piano bar
keyboard since 8:30 p.m.
without stopping ... play-
ing standards, oldies, top hit
tunes and requests ga-
lore ..
For Carl Steger at Jakks,
Greenfield and 10 Mile, to
be tired would be like ask-
ing a hungry man if he had
enough to eat ... Carl th-
rives on the 88 ivories and it
seems to put renewed vigor
in him as the time goes
by ... A night we were
there recently, he saved his
best for the last ... and to
do Duke Ellington properly,
you can't be tired and you
must be very capa-
ble ... Carl did a couple of
Ellingtons better than he's
ever done before ... espe-
cially singing and playing"I
Got It Bad And That Ain't
Good" ... This was followed
by "Do Nothing Til You
Hear From Me."

Carl Steger is best
noted for his own per-
sonal style of interweav-
ing names and places
within his songs ... But
not recognized by so
many are his excellent ta-
lents playing the piano
and singing while noises
may abound all around
him.

To appreciate Carl is to
block out all other sounds
and just listen to
him ... His piano styling is
among the best.

FROM FOOD FOR
THOUGHT, by Consumers

For Pure Food ... "Q — My
12-year-old is willing to go
along with me on eating
more natural foods. His
hang-up, however, is
Coca-Cola. What can I say
to him to convince him that
Coke is not the pause that
refreshes?
"A — We all know that
Coca-Cola is detrimental to
health. It is composed in
part of caffeine, quinine, ar-
tificial color, artificial
flavor and of preservatives.
Dr. Samuel Bellet, chief of
cardiology at Philadelphia
General Hospital has said
that 'caffeine may be more
important than smoking in
setting the stage for heart
attacks.' Perhaps your son
will be impressed by the fol-

lowing article:
"A local AAA (Auto Club)
bulletin provided a handy
winter tip for motorists who
have trouble removing
rusted, old license plates.
The serious AAA advice is
simply: 'Have a
coke ... You don't drink it
of course, you just pour it
over the offending nuts and
bolts .. In a few minutes
you'll be able to loosen the

Reit

plate without any trouble at
all.'
And you thought cola
drinks were only good for
removing stains from old
silverware!!!"
