It has grown into a full-fledged, proper, self- service delicatessen re- staurant. Not everything is on a bagel as many people think ... We had eggs, on- ions and lox, a salty bagel and coffee ... The line went fast and by the time we got to the cashier, our egg plate was ready. The previous Bagel Nosh "concept" is of course gone ... no more paper plates, no more plastic sil- verware and you can have Your bagel toasted. Menus on the wall can now be read ... sandwiches, a la carte, carry-out, etc. And the bagels are better, too ... large as usual but softer for conducive sandwich-making. Management and supervision -play a good part in this type of opera- tion ... Now that Larry Lopatin and son Mark have gotten John Scher- ruble as their vice president of operations, things have changed for the better. The once too-short counter for your tray is being extended ... it is one of the very few places where a peanut butter sandwich ROSE and IRVING GUTTMAN AND THE STAFF OF !RUING 9S DelicateCsosemnp-fileetsetaurant Wish Their Friends and Customers A literU Bolin Anb 3fatally ilhissoutr Thank You For Making Us No. 1 In The Metropolitan Detroit Area STEPHENSON Danny Raskin's OUR HOLIDAY HOURS OPEN FRI., APRIL 21 UNTIL 3 p.m. CLOSED DURING THE PASSOVER HOLIDAY REOPENING AS USUAL AT 6 a.m. TUESDAY, MAY 2 can be gotten ... and the Bagel Nosh home-made cheese cake is among the best anywhere. Can't think of a prettier setting for a delicatessen- restaurant cafeteri- a ... California styling of gracious beauty indeed. Another Bagel Nosh will soon open at the Renais- sance Center downtown . . and should be one of the chain's best money-makers. ANOTHER ERA comes to an end with the closing of Samuels Bros. in the East- ern Market ... first opened in 1927. Soon, another name will become history ... Boes- ky's on 10 Mile and Lahser has been sold again ... this time to Sam Salim ... who intends to do away with the time-honored name in local delicatessen lore. THEY CALL IT The Big Red House ... so cute and so very clean with paintings galore downstairs and up- stairs ... Country Inn on Cass Rd. in Utica is an enjoyable treat. Doesn't take as long as it might seem ... only 20 minutes from South- field ... out 1-75 to end of M39, left on Cass Rd. about a block ... and well worth the ride. We had a delicious set of short end bar-b-q ribs (dinner included a big salad, garlic toast, spaghetti or potatoes) served to us by gracious and efficient Sheryl Andrews, a most pleasant waitress indeed. Downstairs seats 55 ... and the upstairs art gallery is divided into various intimate, cozy rooms with dining for 55 on weekends. Marilyn Frumkin had a terrific-looking Greek Salad which she described as "cold, crispy, loaded and sliced up in good bite-size pieces." "The cheese cake is great, but we're out of it," ex- plained Sheryl ... It's made by owner Joe Fratar- cangeli's wife, Dolores, and we've heard other people rave about it. Country Inn is located in a house owned by a doctor of the early 1900's . . . A photo on the wall shows the house with hitching poets and ce- ment step to which horse and carriages pulled up. Ribs aren't the only thing you can get at Country Inn ... there's chicken and lots of other delicious foods ... We don't know one per- son who has been there and didn't like it .. quite a fine recommendation. LIRE CHILI? ... Try it at Dee's little spot on Green- field and Lincoln ... home-made, thick and zest: t fully taste-tingling. HARD TO REASON why some so-called food cri- tics almost . invariably knock large or 'new places that cost a fortune to build ... Can't understand their reasoning if any, be- (Continued on Page 35) 24931N. CHRYS11 1. 1 1 1 11/41.
