THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, April 21, 1978 15 HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL CENTER N.W. corner of 13.. Mile and Farmington Rd., Farmington Hills, Mich. This Holocaust Memorial Center — the only one outside of Yad Veshem in Jerusalem, Israel —is being made possible through voluntary contribui- tions. The cost of this project is estimated to be one million dollars. $350,000 has already been donated. We appeal to everyone to give us a helping hand in order to speedily complete this sacred historic project. We have conidence that you will want to participate in the building of this historic Holocaust Memorial Center and thus take part in securing the memory and lessons of the Holocaust. To permit the murder of six million Jews and millions of non Jews by the Nazis to be forgotten would serve the objectives of the murderers and be an offense to the memory of the murdered. Not to perpetuate the memory of our murdered people in an institutional manner is to help the murderers eradicate the traces of their monstrous crimes. - (Photograph from the report of the SS - and Police General J. Stropp, the suppressor of the insurrection and liquidator of the WarSaw Ghetto). HEAR ISRAEL The Holocaust Memorial center will serve as a reminder of the life and martyrdom of the European Jewish Community and as a living testimony to the society of mankind what man can and did do to his fellow men when democratic checks and balances are denied to a given society. Thousands of Jewish communities: six million of - our fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, perished in the gas chambers of Nazi Germany. The Nazis in their bestial design not only snuffed out the lives of our dear and near ones but also denied any trace of their whereabouts in death. In this Holocaust Memorial Center the Euro- pean Jewish communities and the six million Jews will find a living expres- sion through which the story and lessons of the Holocaust will be inte- grated into our lives. The European Jewish Community, our brothers and sisters, were alone and without help during the Holocaust. Let us at least make possible the preservation of their martyrdom and identity. Help us preserve the memory and lessons of the Holocaust to all of mankind. This is our sacred duty. History would never forgive us for relinquishing this duty of ours. Con- versely, history will forever be grateful to us for preserving in a tangible institutional manner the memory and lessons of the Holocaust. .
