presentation" in the life of

that although there have
been many important books
and scholarly works on the
Holocaust the television
program will have more of
an impact than all of these
works put together because
it will reach so many mill-
ions of people in the U.S.
and abroad.

Members of the cast
stressed that they felt
they were participating
in something more than
an ordinary film. Fritz
Weaver, who plays Dr.
Josef Weiss, head of the
Jewish family around
which the film evolves,
said he began to feel so
much like a Jew that he

ganization. At the same
time they noted an under-
current of anti-Semitism
from the local population.
Swastikas were painted on
their sets and anti-Semitic
ephihets were hurled at
them on occasion. However,
Robert Berger, the film's
producer, noted that while
anti-Semitism exists in Au-
stria, it is not confined to
there and is present it other

countries, including the
Untied States.
Berger said he was re-
fused permission to shoot
any of the film in Eastern
Europe where many of the
Nazi death camps were lo-
cated. He said he was
turned down by Hungary,
Czechoslovakia, Yugos-
lavia, East Germany and
Poland.
The reasons given, ac-
cording to Berger, were that
parts of the scripts were
seen as too "Zionistic,"

Nazis Evicted Here

Common Pleas Court
bailiffs broke down the
doors of Detroit's Nazi
bookstore Wednesday af-
ternoon and spent three
hours removing Nazi
paraphernalia from the
storefront at 7608 W. Ver-
nor Hwy.
More than 200 bystan-
ders were kept across the
street by Detroit police. The
spectators cheered the
bailiffs and chanted "Get
the Nazis out."
The Nazis have occupied
the store since December
and were evicted because
they had claimed when they
rented the store that it was
to be used for a printing bus-
iness.

that the door had been bloc-
kaded with sandbags, ce-
ment and a sofa. William
Russell, the Nazis' spokes-
man, "was seen in the area,
but was not in the store" at
the time of the eviction.
Freedman said police
used a dog to check the
building for explosives be-
cause of the Nazis' threats

to resist. Only one Nazi was
present in the building, and
he was arrested on several
traffic warrents.
A second Nazi was al-
lowed into the building to
remove his personal be-
longings. The Depart-

The second in the series of
three volumes on "Reform
Judaism Today" by Rabbi
Eugene Borowitz is being
published by Behrman
House.
"Reform Judaism Today
— What' We Believe" was
reviewed in The Jewish
News upon its appearance
as the first book in the
series.
Subtitled "Reform in the

Process of Change," another

volume in the series has just
been issued by Behrman
House.
This newly published ad-
dition to the. series deals
with "the impact of Ameri-
can democracy and Reform

and the evolution of Reform

not Nazis as anti-Semitic.

_ Locally, WWJ-TV sup-
plements the presenta-
tion of the "Holocaust"
with an organized educa-
tional campaign to pro-
vide schools, churches
and interested organiza-
tions with material relat-
ing to the Holocaust.
Maryhelen Stepp super-
vises this task.

At the preview of the first
segment, the three-hour
Sunday portion, WWJ
hosted educators represent-
ing the Detroit school sys-
tem, and labor and church
leaders who had an oppor-
tunity to express their
views and to pledge cooper-
ation in all efforts to pre-
-vent the spread of hatred
and to be vigilant against
the resurgence of Nazism.
United Hebrew Schools
and the Jewish Community
Council have been dis-
tributing a special study
guide in advance of the

program, and several

organizations and the
Anti-Defamation League of
Bnai Brith are underwrit-
ing a special supplement in
Sunday's Detroit Free
Press. The ADL is also dis-
tributing extra copies of
that supplement.
Opposition to the broad-
casting of "Holocaust" was
printed in the newspaper
"Voice of German Ameri-
cans" and in a special sup-
plement to "Conservative
Viewpoint" published by
Richard Cotten.
_ Both called the Holocaust
a myth and based their
criticsm on the heavily at-
tacked "Hoax of the Twen-
tieth Century" written by
Northwestern University

engineering professor Ar-
thur R. Butz.
The two papers described
the Holocaust as a myth, as
anti-German and anti-
Gentile.
Cotten concludes his dis-
cussion of the NBC
"Holocaust" special by ask-
ing his readers to "Please
get involved. We will never
develop a racial conscious-
ness as long as Jewry can
pound on the Myth of-the
Six Million. The stage is
now set, thanks to Dr. Butz
for the revisionist histo-
rians to have a field day. His
evidence is absolutely
overwhelming. Now the
battle lines are drawn. Are
