New ORT Film

Danny Raskin's

LISTENING
POST

QUITE AN EXPERI-

ENCE ... and any rocky air
pocket would have gone un-
noticed for Shirley and Ray
Abrams, who experienced
the first and hopefully their
last earthquake . . They
were recently in Acapulco
when a "tremor" of 35 sec-
onds that seemed like
hours, shook that resort city
. Imagine Shirley's reac-
tion as she stepped out of the
bath tub and the Hyatt lit-
erally bounced . . . or Ray
sitting and then standing as
lamps jumped in the room
. . . They finally made it to
the lobby . . . power was out
for seven hours . . . No
planes ... and when they did
get one back to Detroit it
couldn't have been sooner
. . . Earthquake almost
took away their beautiful
tans.
. You'd turn white, too!
AT RECENT Furniture
Club luncheon reception for
son Steven's Bar Mitzva,
Buddy Sollish was so car-
ried away by beautiful job
his son did, that instead of
making a speech he got up
and surprised everyone .. .
Buddy said how much he
loved his wife Gerrie and
their children (Ron, Steve
and Beth) ... Then he sang
to them, "You Light Up My
Life."

ON WAY BACK FROM

Las Vegas, plane was so
loaded, Dr. Richard Whit-
man of Sinai Hospital and
wife Celeste had to sit in
separate cabins of the big
DC-10 . . . We enjoyed the
pleasure of having this fine
young man sitting next to
us.

YETTA AND SAM
GINSBURG, now living in

California, look fantasti-
cally good — never better ...
not even so many many
years ago when he owned
Central Florist on Hum-
phrey and Dexter ... Yetta
and Sam celebrate their
22nd anniversary in May.
CONGRATS TO Sharon
and Bennett Schwartz ... on
their third anniversary.
ANOTHER NEW shop-
ping center, American
Plaza, on 11 Mile and Inks-
ter, is shooting for an early
fall opening ... It'll have 30
stores, plus three restaur-
ants ... deli, Chinese and
American.
KROGER'S OPENS its
doors May 14 in the new
shopping center at Green-
field and Nine Mile Rd. . . .
Perry Drugs follows shortly
after.

PROJECT "JUMP"

(Jewish Underprivileged
Mental Patients) will be-
nefit from the Las Vegas
Night by Tucker-Grant
Bnai Brith, April 15, 8:30,
at Cong. Beth Abraham
Hillel Moses in West
Bloomfield ... For more info
call Jerry Olson, 967-3523.

MAX SEFFINGER

doesn't believe in matching
his ties with the suits he
wears . .-. only the lining.
1934 GRADUATES of

Northern High are being
sought (also those of '33 and
35) with hopes of developing
a 45th Reunion Anniver-
sary . . . Northern had won
the city basketball champ-
ionship in 1931, and in 1934
had guys like Carl Bayer,
Herman Fishman, Henry
"Honey" Berris and
Leonard Tigay . . . Looking
for the graduates is Wilson
D. Tyler, president of the
January, 1934 class ... Call
him at 222-3670 or 349-
0569.

NO TRUTH THAT

when you get your car
waxed through the auto
wash line it stays on the
windshield and is bad if
wipers are needed during
rain . . . At least not so at
Jax Kar Wash on Green-
field and 10 Mile, where
they almost always wipe the
wax off. . . especially when
manager Dennis Kowalski
or cashier Sue Thomason is
there.
- ART BRAND, former
Detroiter, has toiled- seven
years in the front office of
Las Vegas Hilton.

DENIM HEADQUAR-
TERS called it quits and

closed their doors at Lahser
and 10 Mile ... Shirlee and
Ann don't expect to open
again.

DOESN'T IT IRK YOU

. . When shoe stores don't
have your size after you like
the ones in the window?...
When cigar stores change
prices everytime you buy a
box of the same cigars? .. .
When gas stations no longer
act as service stations — no
more washing windshields,
checking oil, etc.? ... When
a motorist behind honks be-
cause you don't turn right—
even though a sign says,
"No right turn on red"? . . .
When you see someone
wearing an exact copy of the
real thing jewelry you
bought for a fortune? . . .
When your apartment land-
lord keeps raising the rent
and still doesn't fix your
leaky faucet or whatever?
. . When the so-called big
philanthropist who owes
you money always has an
excuse for not paying his
personal debts?

its grapes before they are
ripe; not even vinegar can
be made of them.
