Seminary Listing Archive Material

NEW YORK — The lib-
rary of the Jewish Theologi-
cal Seminary of America
has published a listing of its
archival collections.
Cited in the "Preliminary
Listing of Holdings" are
some 5,000 prints and
photographs spanning the
17th through 20th Cen-
turies, personal papers of
many major Jewish com-
munity leaders and scho:

lars, and communal records
from Germany, France,
Italy, Morocco, Algeria and
Palestine.
The listing, which is ex-
tensive but not complete,
also includes documents
from the Nuremburg
Trials and letters from
Nobel Laureate Saul Bel-
low to journalist Bernard
G. Richards.
Although the library has
been accumulating archival
materials since the semi-
nary's founding in 1886, no
formal archives existed
until 1976 when a grant
from the National Endow-
ment for the Humanities
enabled librarians to pro-
cess and catalogue the
many separate archival
holdings and to prepare the
new listings.

Christian-Only
Directory Rapped
by Church Body

NEW YORK (JTA) —
The National Council of
Churches has charged that
the so-called "Christian
Yellow Pages" which are
circulating in metropolitan
areas across the country are
discriminatory because
they allow only "born-
again" Christians to adver-
tise.
The Christian Yellow
Pages thereby discrimi-
nates against Jews and
other non-Christians, as
well as against those Chris-
tians who are not willing to
be designated by the
"born-again" label, the
NCC said. Moreover this
kind of prejudicial advertis-
ing brings discredit upon
the entire Christian church.
