Rabbi Hertz Will Mark 25th Anniversary
as the Senior Rabbi of Temple Beth El

Temple Beth El will ob-
serve the 25th anniversary
of Rabbi Richard C. Hertz as
senior rabbi of the temple at
a testimonial dinner 6:30
p.m. May 3 in Handleman
Hall of the temple.
Rabbi Hertz became the
senior rabbi of Temple Beth
El in 1953 after having
served at Chicago Sinai
Congregation as associate
rabbi for six years and pre-
vious to that, at North
Shore Congregation Israel,
Glencoe, Ill., as assistant
rabbifor five years.
Hertz
was
Rabbi
graduated from the Univer-
sity of Cincinnati and was
ordained with honors at the
Hebrew Union College in
1942. He earned his PhD
degree in religious educa-
tion from Northwestern
University in 1948, and in
1967 Hebrew Union College
conferred upon him an hon-
orary Doctor of Divinity de-
gree.

Rabbi Hertz has served
on the boards of directors
of the American Jewish
Committee, Jewish
Community Council, De-
troit Institute of
Technology, Economic
Club of Detroit, United
Foundation, Interfaith
Action Council and Boys'
Clubs of Detroit. He is a
past president of the
Wranglers' Club (De-
troit's leading clergy-
men), and was a member
of former Gov. George
