"My new Bat Mitzva cer-
tificate will have a place of
honor next to my husband's
Bar Mitzva certificate,"
promised Hannah Morrison
Fisher, 26-year-old attor-
ney from Alexandria, Va.,
who was inscribed in the
Jewish National Fund's
Sefer Bat Mitzva at Cong.
Har Shalom, in Potomac,
Md., this month.
Mrs. Fisher, daughter of
Mrs. Nathalie Morrison of
Southfield and the late Mr.
Robert Morrison, attended
Hebrew school for many
years at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek, which in the past did
not offer a Bat Mitzva sere-
. mony. The Morrison family
and the family of Mrs.
Fisher's late grandfather,
Robert Marwil, have been
prominent in many Jewish
organizations in Detroit
since the turn of the cen-
tury.
Although disappointed at
not having the opportunity
to celebrate her Bat Mitzva
at age 13, Mrs. Fisher, an
attorney with the U.S. Pa-
tent and Trademark Office,
admitted that the ceremony
was more meaningful for
her now, at twice that age.

Mrs. Fisher did the extra
studying while working
more than 40 hours a week,
in addition to Hadassah and
ORT activities, her role as
secretary of the Trademark
Society at her office and
household duties.
Moreover, she is largely
self-taught in her Bat
Mitzva skills,
supplemented by a tape of
the Torah and Haftorah
4. _bops (musical notes in the
Torah) and a few hours of
tutoring.

MRS. FISHER
sive that women like me
can take an active role in
a leadership capacity —
yet observant enough to
satisfy us with our tradi-
tional Conservative up-
bringing," Mrs. Fisher
said.
