Shapiro, president of the Labor Zionist Al- liance and chairman of the nominating committee of the PreSidents Conference, told a press conference. Schindler's new term in of- fice is likely to extend for less than a year, Shapiro said. He declined to elabo- rate on the "pressure" com- ing from the White House. Schindler, who also de- clined to describe "the pres- sure" from the White House, referred, however, at length to recent media reports about friction bet- ween himself and President Cartel'.:. National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski. "I made no personal at- tack on anyone at any time," Schindler said at the press conference. He stressed that he did not refer to Brzezinski as an "anti-Semite." He ac- The One and Only . . . 661-1198 PROTECTO TABLE PAD CO. Brzesinski replied to the Times that American Jews were saying "if you don't agree with us . . . we're going to stamp you _as an anti-Semite.' " Brzezinski said the attacks on him were a "subtle kind of pres- sure" and part of a policy of "intimidation" being con- ducted in "public and pri- vately by Jewish leaders." Asked to describe the re- lations between American Jewry and the Carter Ad- ministration, Schindler said: "I think they are not bad or tense as they are de- scribed to be." But he said there are differences and that there are aspects of the Administration's Mideast policy that are not accepta- ble to the Presidents Con- ference. At the same time, he said, "we are pleased" with the team at the State Depart- ment which is helping to bring the negotiations bet- ween Egypt and Israel to a successful conclusion. He added, however, that "we have suspicions, that grew after (Mark) Siegel's resig- nation that the National Security Council espouses a policy that is not favorable to us." Siegel, who was Car- - ter's liaison with the American Jewish commun- ity, ended his duties at the White House March 14. Treat your ravioli mayvin to real Italian taste...
