he Best of Everything

(Continued from Page 28)
think Chef Jimmy
Schmidt's offerings are
worthy of a citation from
the Queen of England.
Any appetizer from the
Rikshaw Inn; any ham-
burger from the Sabre
Lancer; Sindbad's open-
faced steak sandwich;
poached salmon at Jim's
Garage; the steaks from
John Laffrey's New-
Yorkish Steaks on the
-Hearth; the soft shelled
crabs, oysters ala Ernie,
creamed spinach, bean
salad and broiled fish from
Joe Muer's; Charley's
Chowder which you'll find
at all Chuck Muer restau-
rants; the Paradigm's salad
bar — ditto the one at the
Push Cart Cafe, an oasis
which is located smack in
the middle of the Eastern
Market; the ambrosial de-
sserts at La Cuisine in
Windsor and the succulent
ribs proudly presented at
Mitch's Tavern and Ar-
chibald's.
Nor let us forget the sil-
en, fresh raspberry pie
from the hand of Chef Milos
t the Golden Mushroom or
e appetizers at the eleg-
ant Bijou in Southfield.
Last, but not least, we have
found Tweeny's selections
to be impeccable on all
fronts . . . you have to see
and taste to believe.
What have been some of
your worst food experiences
in your restaurant travels?
We hate to fudge that
question, but with Danny
Raskin's permission and
enough interest from
you, the reader, we could
put together a Gong
Show restaurant list for
some future column that
would be positively
therapeutic for us and,
hopefully, of interest to
you. But for now that
sticky-wicket subject will
be left on the back burner
to simmer until such time
as we are allowed to let it
boil over.

Detroit Area Friends of
Interlochen will celebrate
the 50th anniversary of the
national music camp and
center for the arts at an
April 18 "Birthday Dinner
Party" at the Grosse Pointe
War Memorial.
A cocktail hour, dinner,
and a performance of the In-
terloChen Arts Academy
Piano Tour will be featured.
For tickets or informa-
tion, call Mrs. Alfred Mo-
ran, 884-4387.

Pianist Appears
in DSO Concert

Pianist Sir Clifford Cur-
zon will appear with the De-
troit Symphony Orchestra,
under the baton of Antal
Dorati, 8:30 p.m. Thursday,
.March 31 and April 1 at
Ford Auditorium
Tickets are available at
the Ford Auditorium box of-
fice.

In the meantime, we have
a response card in the front
of "Meet, Eat and Enjoy
Greater Detroit" (prepaid
postage) which can be filled
out and sent to us which
gives you a chance to name
your own Gong Show
nominees, among other
things, and will help us plan
next year's book. We'd
greatly appreciate your
help.
Why don't you just re-
print menus in the book and
let it go at that?
Back to the response
cards. We've received hun-
dreds of replies since the
1978 edition came out and,
while it is true that the
menu section is of primary
concern, the heavy majority
who answered the question
"What are your favorite!
parts of the book?"
answered, "All of it."
Furthermore, we wanted
to write a book that would
truly cover the gamut of
food-related subjects — a
restaurant "Bible" for all
ages. Our book is 81/2" x 11",
weighs well over a pound,
and is 239 pages long.

Danny Raskin wrote in
"The Best of Everything"
. . . It is a volume few

homes should be without —
sells for $6.95 and well
worth it - " Now who are we
to dispute Danny?!
Once again, thank you,
Danny, for letting us spill as
much printer's ink as we
wanted. We hope to have
you and Frieda over for din-
ner again soon. Just do us
one favor when you return
— bring some good weather
with you and one of Irving's
corned beefsandwiches
just in case we run out of
gefilte fish.
