How's that for being
treated like a guest, or even
a walking pocketbook? For
a place that goes up to $13
for an a la carte entree and
is a favorite hangout of the
mighty, we are definitely
not impressed.
• A visit to an old favo-
rite, "Oh, My Mama's."
We're all geared up for a
treat instead of a treat-
ment and have been
salivating for the entire
half-hour drive; visions
of Mama's gusty greet-
ings dance through our
head. Ok, roll the
cameras.

wants $4 cash and carefully
explains that he won't be re-
sponsible for damages.
Full house, Mama is not
providing gusty greetings
tonight; Mama is having a
series of highly emotional
screamers . . . but with a
wink now and then just to
let you know it's all in good
fun (the waiters are pale
with delight and rubbing
tears of joy from their wide,
sparkling eyes).
We're ushered into the
bar for a wait of an hour or •
so. No problem, time really
flies when your bankroll is is
melting away at about 25 •
cents per minute including
tax and tip with no food in
sight. But there is excite-
ment. The bartender yells •
out to the room that he's
quitting (it's 8:30 p.m.) and ■
under no circumstances will
he ever work again for ■
Mama, that offspring of a ■
■
five-letter word.
On and on it goes — the ■
Lysol/stale beer odor is be- ■
ginning to get to us, but in
the nick of time we're
ushered into the dining ■
room of Detroit's most re- ■
nowned pasta and veal
palace.
It's great fun, the pasta is
only about $7 a plate and
our near decapitation as
Mama and a stumbling wai-
ter carry an extra table over
our heads is absolutely free.
That's what we're looking
for!
• How about the great
suburban restaurant(s)?
The one(s) featuring six-
figure decor, a continen-
tal menu, and teams of
pretty, perky waitresses
with Grand Canyon-like
and
cleavage
thoroughbred gams. You
know, the ones with the
bouncing tutu skirts and
the latest cliche' hairdos.
Tutu No. 1 explains that
she will take care of our be-
verage requirements while
Tutu No. 2 will handle the
grits. Both flounce off before
we can order a drink and
without leaving a menu.
Tutu No. 1 returns in about
10 minutes, goes for the
martinis and even brings
back a wine list.
No more than 20 minutes
have elapsed and we've had
the fun of reading the
table-tents (several times)
and getting a bonus of not
just one martini with an
olive and one with a twist
but each with two olives, a
twist and a pearl onion.
Tutu No. 2 now appears
and asks if we'd like to or-
der. "Yes, indeed" we reply
and "It sure would be less of
