Brands Egypt as Hypocritical

Victims of the mass mur-
der perpetrated by the PLO
on hijacked buses last
Saturday were
memorialized Sunday night
at the annual Morris Adler
Memorial Lecture at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek. Expressing
grief over the tragedy,
Rabbi Irwin Groner af-
firmed the unity of Jewry in
support of Israel as an
adequate answer to the ter-
rorism aimed at Israel's
existence.

the deceased victims by

Commenting on the
tragedy, the guest speaker,
Rabbi Alexander Schindler,
chairman of the Conference
of Presidents of Major
American Jewish Organi-
zations, called the attitude
of Egypt "hypocrisy." He
pointed out that while
Egypt broke relations with
Cyprus when the PLO mur-
dered an Egyptian official
there, the only reaction to
the outrage by hijackers of
the two buses in Israel was
that it proved the necessity
for self-determination by
Palestinians.
He called it a "moc-
kery" of justice by
"hands dripping with
blood and covered with
oil."
Reviewing the involve-
ment with the Carter Ad-
ministration and the con-
troversy with National Sec-
urity Adviser Zbigniew
Brzezinski, Rabbi Schin-
dler denied having called
him an anti-Semite. He said
that his emphasis in state-
ments to State Department
and White House officials
was that the Jewish com-
munity stands united for
the security of Israel and
declared, "Dissent was
answered not with reason
but with slander."
He leveled an accusation
at Brzezinski that he was
responsible for the U.S.-
USSR declaration injecting
Russian influence into the
efforts for a renewal of the
Geneva Conference and
that he had courted the
PLO.

settlements and Resolution
242 were peripheral issues
and that the obstacle to
peace is Hussein's demand
for total adherence to his
demands before negotia-
tions.
