THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

Having An Affair?

Danny Raskin's

LISTENING
POST

MICHAEL COHN, 14-
. year-old son of Esther Cohn,
wrote a letter to Egyptian
President Anwar Sadat re-
garding his; attempts to
make peace .. . Six weeks
later, Michael received a
well-stamped reply from
Sadat telling , how wonder-
ful it was that a young
Jewish boy would take
enough interest to write to
him . . . and have so much
confidence in his plans for
peace in the Middle East.
STEVE SHAPIRA'S
and 11'42 Mile, next to Cun-
ningham's, was formerly a
Farmer Jack super market.
Produce store on Woodward
and 11 1/2 Mile, next to cun-
ningham's, was formerly .a
Farmer Jack super market.
That's how big the place is
. . . and the values seem
hardly believable . . .
What started out just as a
plant store . . .-all sizes
. . . big and small .. . has
also become a large cart op-
eration . . with produce
galore, cheeses, dairy, de-
licatessen counter, nuts,
etc. on and on.
Steve's wife, Doreen, is as
enthused as can be . . . and
his mother, Harriett Shap-
ira, who will be the star of
an advertising campaign by
Mother Nature's, is tickled
pink . . . "My son may not
be a doctor," says Harriett,
"but he makes people
happy. That makes me
happy too. "

EVERY ME YOU
make a phon call at Star
Furniture on oodward in
Birming . . or at
Livernois to Glass on 10
Park, a sign
Mile in 0
asks you put a 20-cent
contributi into a City of
Hope box (good idea).

MAIL EPT. . . "You
mentio in your column
on Friday, Feb. 24, 1978,
about the 45th annual
Inter-Congregational Men's
Club being a dinner-dance
. . . I would like to know
with whom did you dance? I
was under the impression
that the affair was for men
only. I hear the only lady in
attendance was the cantor's
accompanist. I'm sure a lot
of wives have been ques-
tioning their husbands
about this affair."
. Ruth F. Hollander
(Have no fear, Ruth, it
was our boo boo. About Can-
tor Hy Adler's accompanist
being the only woman the
. . how about the waitres-
ses and cateress Monica
Sperber?)
SURE HOPE IT doesn't
happen, but if more Central
High grads of '43 don't perk
up interest in the 35-year
reunion, April 15, at Fair-
lane Manor . . the whole
thing may be called off .
Would be most tragic and
we know the grads wouldn't
want this to happen . . .
especially with all the time
and effort that has gone into
the planning.

Get on the ball, Central
alumnief'43 . . . it could be
a gala event . . . Call Gol-
dye Gross Topper, 559-7762,
or Shirlee Siegel Graff,
547-2537.

WAYNE COUNTY
Sheriff William Lucas, who
will be guest speaker, Sun-
day, at the monthly conti-
nental brunch by Bnai
David Men's Club, has quite
a fine record in the line of
law and order . . . Bill is a
former patrolman who came
up through the ranks . . a
detective prior to joining the
U.S. Department of Justice
as an investigator for the
Civil Rights Commission
. . later an assistant U.S.
attorney and then special
agent for the -FBI.
BEST BET Of The
Weekend . . Dinner-
Dance by Knights of
Pythias, Detroit Lodge 55,
Saturday evening at Michi-
gan Inn.
DISA 'n DATA . . . Cor-
rect spelling of Penske
Chevrolet's right hand man
is Toni Szott, a real nice guy
. . Sam Reiner and Dave
Pollach looking young as
always . . . Dr. Lou Woll of
Union Optical Co. in Lin-
coln Park, taking a precious
$3 Cuban cigar and throw-
ing it out the door . . .
Sigel-Hope Jewelers in Lin-
coln Center does work bet-
ter than its spelling,

"Closed today until ferther

notice." . . . Bud Fields
says he saw a robin while
shoveling himself out one
day last week.
THIS IS THE 24th an-
niversary for Detroit Laun-
dry Supply Co..., with the
name slightly peculiar for
the fine business owned by
Marian Raimi at the same
spot . . on Coolidge, just
south of Nine Mile in Oak
Park.
It has nothing to do with
laundry supplies . . . but is
the top spot at the lowest
prices of any retail store
anywhere whenever, the
cause comes for linens in the
house . . . And not just li-
nens, either . . . bath to-
wels, quilts, covers — just
about everything.

LOOKING BACK ON
COLUMNS Of Yesteryears

FEB. - 16, 1968 . . .
"While flying here from the
West Coast, friend of Mar-
vin Tamaroff of Marwood
Motor Sales, told him of the
Montana cowboy on board
who just wouldn't fasten his
safety belt . . . 'Miss,' he in-
formed the stewardess

firmly, 'for nigh on 20 years
I've rode everything I ever

mounted, and I don't aim to

be saddle-tied at this stage
of the game. Let 'er buck. I'll

ride er!
"By the way, Marvin's
new Buick dealership in the
northwest area on Tele-
graph Rd. will be open by

summer . . . date to be an-
nounced." -
