Judea, Samaria Are a Necessity

Editor, The Jewish News:
Uri Avneri, a leading op-
ponent of the Begin gov-
ernment wrote recently:
"What is preferable—peace
without annexation of ter-
ritory or annexation of ter-
ritory without peace?" This

statement is a fallacy. Av-
neri should have written:
"Which is preferable a tem-
porary peace in exchange
for permanently giving up
the annexed land?"
Avneri further states that
we have no choice, but
"trust" Sadat- But even if
we trust Sadat, he may live
another few years and who
knows what kind of a leader
will follow him!
The annexed land of
Samaria and Judea is more
important to Israel's sec-
urity than the most modern
weapon! Therefore, the an-
nexation of that land is not
"sentimental" nor "biblical"
but purely a necessity. Let
us hope that the thousands
of young Israelis who died in
the last four wars, so that
Israel should have secure
borders, did not die in vain!

Jewish March
on Skokie Asked

Editor, The Jewish News:
I was just disgusted to
hear that all impediments
to the planned Nazi march
in Skokie have fallen by the
wayside and that the de-
spicable bearers of the mes-
sage of Nazism intend to
march in that suburban
Chicago community.
I believe that communal
funds sho-uld be made avail-
able to provide mass trans-
portation for those from our
community who are pre-
pared "to do something" and
not "to sit idly by" as the
memory of six million of our
brothers is shamed and dis-
graced and while our own
existence - is placed in
danger.
I would hope that hun-
dreds if not thousands of
members of our community
would be prepared "to do
something" and would not
provide excuses such as in-
ability to miss a day of work,
refusal to get involved, etc.

TEL AVIV (JTA) — Two

of the world's foremost au-
thorities in international
sports met with Israeli offi-
cials during the past few
days to try to reassure the
sports fraternity here that
they would be doing every-
thing . in their power to aid
Israel in their difficulties
with international sports
federations.
Dr. Joao Havelenge of
Brazil, the head of the In-
ternational Football As-
sociation, in Israel to add
his presence to the celebra-
tion of the 50th anniversary
of the foundation of the Is-
raeli Soccer Federation, ad-
vised this writer, "Although

tion, I will do everything
possible to have them ad-
mitted to the European
Confederation."
Israel has been voted out
of the Asian Soccer Federa-
tion due to the duplicity of
Japan which combined with
the Arab League and coun-
tries beholden to Arab coun-
tries for oil.
Adrian Paulen of Hol-
land, head of the Interna-
tional Track and Field
Federation, likewise has
indicated he will cooper-
ate fully in its quest.
Paulen advised this wri-
ter:
"If the people running the
Asian games, upcoming
next year, persist in their ef-
forts to deprive Israel of par-
ticipating in international
Olympic committee ap-

proved games, I for one,
shall make every attempt to
have the sanction for games
removed just as soon as it is
determined definitely that

the people here will not be
permitted to perform.
"We were successful in
the past when this situation
arose, particularly with the
Mediterranean
games

which has now become past
history. There is no reason
whatsoever why Israel
should be driven out of com-
petition with its neighbors

on the Asian continent. We
cannot countenance this
type of discrimination."

Lack of Women
in Top Positions
Studied by AAJE

NEW YORK (JTA) —
The American Association
for Jewish
Education
(AAJE I has undertaken a
nationwide study to deter-
mine why so few teachers in
Jewish schools advance to
administrative and execu-
tive positions.
The study will survey a
representative group of
some 1,000 women teachers
in congregational and day
schools of all denominations
throughout the country.
It will inquire if they have
ever considered, applied for
or occupied administrative
positions and whether they
have been discouraged from
entering these areas. In ad-
dition, it will seek to ascer-
tain if applicants who were
rejected for such jobs believe
discrimination was the
major reason, and whether
those who held and then left
supervisory posts were ac-
cepted by their male col-

leagues.
