Little-Known Prof to Fill Katzir Post?

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Premier Begin has sur-
prised the Israeli political
community by indicating
his preference for a little-
known scientist, Prof. Yit-
zhak Shaveh, for the presi-
dency. Begin's move became

known in the Knesset late

Friction Cancels Vets' Parade

JERUSALEM — The
parade of veterans that was
scheduled to be held in
Jerusalem in conjunction
with Israel Independence
Day has been cancelled in
favor of ceremonies at Na-
tional Hebrew University
Stadium
Government officials said
that friction between the Ir-
gun, Hagana and Lehi
veterans over number of
participants and placement
in the parade caused the
cancellation.

William Braiterman of
Baltimore, a member of the
presidium of the Veterans of
the Judean Battalions,
which fought with the
British during World War I,
issued the following state-
ment:

"The 30th anniversary
celebration of the state of
Israel is like any Jewish
simh a, when certain
guests can't forget their
past grievances and em-
barrass all the other
guests in attendance.

AMW Shabat

NEW YORK —American
Mizrachi Women President
Sarah Shane has an-
nounced that the annual
"AMW Shabat", a nation-
wide Sabbath salute to the
major women's religious
Zionist organization in the
U.S., will take place March
•18.
Mrs. Shane noted the sig-
nificance of this year's
AMW Shabat, which falls
the week of Purim. It is cal-
led- "Shabat Zachor (Sab-
bath of Remembrance),"
named for the Torah portion
to be read on this particular
Sabbath each year.
Congregations and com-
munities in 37 states and
the District of Columbia
will participate.

'ba-roy-gez' we urge all our
members to treat it like sen-
sible people should, which is
to ignore it in making their
plans to visit Israel. The
celebration promises many
exciting and interesting
events that will make it
easy to forget this unfortu-
nate 'dark cloud' which
should never have ap-
peared.
"As for the 61st reunion
celebration of the formation
of the Jewish Legion
scheduled for the Yom Ha-
Atzmaut week of the 11th of
May, it will have a rich and
delightful program, to bring
back the memories of the
courage and valor that pre-
vailed during the days of the
First World War."

My Mother

dress warmly, eat the right
foods, pick good
company, work hard, be
fair with my customers,
always give them extra
value for their money ...

salesman.
