In accordance with Jewish law, the marriage ceremony includes the Shrink Shrunk JERUSALEM (JTA) — Sigmund Freud may have been shuckling last week as Knesset members grappled with a momentous issue: does the Knesset need the services of a psychiatrist? act of the groom handing his bride the "ketuba" or marriage contract, whereby he accepts the obligation to supply all her needs in their future life together. The ketuba serves to defend the wo- man's position after her marriage and, in the words of the Talmud, "so that it will not be easy for him to cast her aside." The legal importance of the ketuba in the relations between bride and groom is evidenced by the fact that Jewish law prohibits the husband from spending The ensuing discussion and repartee had all the makings of a therapy ses- sion as a number of Knes- seters let their unconscious repressed hostilities and anxieties all hang out. The discussion was sparked by a suggestion by Likud Knesseter Pesach Grupper to appoint a psychiatrist to visit the Knesset once a week. The suggestion was evidently well intentioned. As Grup- per saw it, a psychiatrist could help soothe the over- worked and frayed nerves of the representatives of the people. Some of his colleagues, however, felt that Grupper was expressing doubts about their emotional sta- bility. GRAEME • : FLOWERS • BILL CAPLAN „• • in w. The typed pieces of paper, folded to the size of a post- age stamp, blame Jews for ailments ranging from tooth decay to colds, the in- vestigators said. One drug company confirmed that the notes did not originate from its plants, but were slipped into the packages while on grocery shelves. even one hour with his wife unless she is in possession of the ketuba — and should the original certificate be lost, he has to provide her with another. The unique status of the Holy Land in Jewish life finds expression even in the law concerning the mar- riage contract, since it is ruled that should the wife refuse to follow her husband to the Holy Land, the ketuba is automatically an- nulled. The IL 0.75 stamp por- trays one of the most beauti- ful Dutch ketubot of the 17th Century. The IL 3.90 stamp illustrates an illumi- nated ketuba from the Moroccan community of Meknes, clearly showing the influence of Islamic art. The marriage contract on the IL 6 stamp is a typical example of a ketuba from Jerusalem. • • • • • • • • • • • • BRAND NEW '78 BUICK REGALS * ▪ • • ',Loaded with Extras • Turbo-Hydramatic • Power Steering • Power Disc Brakes • Radial WSW 4c • Plus Much More 4 c '4,656 plus license plates & tax 4c STE I,I,A OP[ th1, 1 & THUP" TIt FPM Call ART WEISS 531-2500 4c * * * * * * * * * * * * * **** * - 4c 4C 4C 4C
