Japan Returns
Israeli Oranges
Without Probe

TEL AVIV (JTA) — Is-
raeli officials reacted with
anger after Japan ordered
600 crates of oranges re-
_turned to Israel without an
inspection.
Many in Israel saw it as
an indication that Japan is
moving more and more into
a pro-Arab position. They
noted
that
recently
Japanese delegates voted to
oust Israel from the Asia.
Games.
The Japanese decision
came just as Israel's citrus
sales to Europe were return-
ing to normal following a 33
percent drop in the wake of
the discovery of mercury in
oranges in Holland and
West Germany.

In Italy, after mercury
was reportedly found in
two grapefruits in the
north, Israeli-grapefruits
were given a clean bill of
health by inspectors in
Milan. They were im-
mediately released for
sale on the market.

United States health au-
thorities, outside Philadel:
phia, approved the ship-
ment Of seven million Is-
raeli oranges after inspect-
• ing them. The contamina-
tion scare in Europe re-
sulted in a $30 million loss
for the Israeli citrus indus-
try, according to officials in
Tel Aviv.

counselor training work-
shops.
The workshops will be
held 2:30 p.m. March 19 and
26 and April 2 and 9 in the
Concourse Lounge of Mary
Markley Residence Hall.

The workshop topics
include child develop-
ment, March 19; camp
crafts and religious ob-
servance, March 26;
group participation,
problem campers, dance,
arts and focus on Israel,
April 2; and sharing of
special skills, April 9.

Tel Aviv municipality's
Bialik Awards for Litera-
ture for this year went to
poets 'Abba Kovner for his
book of poetry, "Tatzpiot"
(forecasts-) and to Zelda
Mishkovsky (known as
Zelda) fOr her book of poems,
"Mountains and Fire."
The award for Israeli
philosophy went to Prof.
Yehoshua Ben-Aryeh for
his research on Jerusalem
in the 19th Century, and
Prof. Aharon Mirski for his
work on the ancient Eretz
Yisrael poet Yossi Ben-
Yossi.
