THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

The Best of Everything)

(Continued from Page 24)

Haus, 1977 E. Woodbridge
in Detroit.
Augie Lammerding, Brau
Haus owner, told the sordid
ashtray story, allegedly
with much joy.
Dick -Lobenthal, director
of the Bnai Brith Anti-
Defamation League, told us
that on a complaint, he
phoned the owner, "a person
named Augie, who con-
firmed that he had told the
joke and thought it was
quite funny. -
Dick thinks it is the
crudest and grossest joke he
has ever heard.
Needless to say, the
reader who called no longer
goes to the Brau Haus.

DEBBIE HAWKINS is
the new public relations di-
rector at Detroit Plaza
Hotel in Renaissance
Center . . . taking over for
Ken Thomas Kitchin.

THE WEATHER HAS
BEEN absolutely horrible

for many- restaurant and
nitery owners ... Those who
weather the snow by keep-
ing their cash flow from
dipping too deep in the red
will be the winners in the
long run, though, because a
dining out boom is expected
this summer.
FINALLY BEING dis-
covered by many after its
opening 15 months ago is
Athenian Cuisine on South-
field, just south of 10 Mile.
It is one of the least ex-
pensive Greek restaurants
around ... and very good too
. . . One of the owners, Pete
Laskaris, who does much of
the fine cooking, was chef
for five years at New Hellas
in Greektown.
One of the items on the
menu, Stuffed Pita _Bread,
very simple, yet so very
tasty, is a natural for lunch
. . . and quite wholesome at
dinner time also ... It is two
pieces of pita bread . . . the
pockets of each filled with
ground beef, mixed green
salad (lettuce, tomato,
green pepper, onion) feta
cheese and hard-boiled egg .
A l \•tilii.e from Mexico and
liawaii . . . and sells for only
2.10 at Athenian CuiSine.
This little eatery that
doesn't even seat 60 people
is being discovered .., for its
juicy lamb chops, shish
, kabob and Greek specialties
in a menu selection that
also includes some Ameri-
can favorites.
AMBITION . . :to some-
day see the help at some_re-
staurants not wear their un-
_ iform for one day . . . So
many probably look real
sharp and snazzy in regular
clothes.
COUNTRY INN, the lit-
tle red house in Utica, has
been approved for a liquor
license ... It now serves only
beer and wine ... Owner Joe
Fratarcangeli is setting up
his own carry-out opera-
tions around the state . . .
calling t hem Country
Cousins. _ .
