Dutch Anti-Semitism Told

AMSTERDAM (JTA) —
Anti-Jewish prejudice
among the Dutch people
was brought home in a
dramatic way last Saturday
during a 90-minute radio
program devoted to anti-
Semitism in Holland.
The program gave listen-
ers a chance to phone in
their reactions, and the re-
sults were striking.
Several Jewish mothers
reported that pupils in kin-
dergarten and elementary
schools have made anti-
Semitic remarks such as
calling their children "dirty
Jew."

The mothers noted that
such epithets could only
indicate that the parents

VIENNA (JTA) — Au=
stria is interested in pur-
chasing Kfir int*-ceptor
fighters from Israel but the
Austrian government is not
expected to make a definite
decision before -1980, gov-
ernment sources said.
The sources said Defense
Ministry experts- believe
that Austria needs 18-24
fighter planes to bolster-its
air space defense.
Israel has offered Austria
20 Kfir fighters in exchange
for industrial and agricul-
tural products. However,
some critics fear that such
an arms-for-products deal
would jeopardize Austria's
trade relations with the
Arab world. A similar deal
was cancelled last year for
that reason.

seven Israeli universities
have agreed with seven
French language univer-
sities in Quebec, Ontario
and New Brunswick to sup-
port the cultural exchange
program sponsored by
Amitie, the' society for the
promotion of cultural rela-
tions between Israel and
French Canada.
This resolution was an-
nounced by, the newly-
elected co-chairmen of
Amitie, Rene J. A. Leves-
que, dean of the faculty of
the arts and sciences of the
University of Montreal, and
Dr. Stephen Barberjoun-
der of the Canada-Israel
Chamber of Commerce, at a
meeting at the University of
Montreal.
•Mordechai Shalev, Is-
rael's Ambassador to
Canada, addressed the au-
dience in French recalling
Dr„ Chaim Weizmann's
prophecy that "The univer-
sity will be our spiritual for-
tress."
