THE L------NG
AND THE
SH--RT OF IT
THE LONG: If you are between 17* and 32 years old
and would like to experience Israel for 6 months, a
semester or year, we've got the programs! Learn
Hebrew, volunteer in a development town, dig into
a kibbutz, live the land and the people in these
historic times. Most programs cost little more than
airfare alone. Room and board are included. Col-
lege credits are available where applicable.
• and a high school graduate
THE SHORT: If you are in high school, college, or
()icier you should spend this summer in Israel. There
are dozens of programs to choose from—many of-
fering college credits. Be an archaeologist, work
on a kibbutz, learn Hebrew, dance, tour, discover
your Jewish roots. All programs offer rare
challenges and in-depth Israeli experiences.
So whether you're interested in the long or the short
of it call today or write for the free descriptive
booklet.

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Senator Richard Stone (D-
Fla.) charged in the Senate
Tuesday that President
Carter's explanation for
supplying F-15 jets to Saudi
Arabia "does not seem to
square with the facts we are
getting from other sources.'
The chairman of the Se-
nate Foreign Relations sub-
committee on Near Eastern
and South Asian affairs also
declared "the President is
being misadvised, and the
information being given" to
the Congress does not
"jibe" with information
from some 'Administration
"experts on the U.S. supply
of Hawk anti-aircraft mis-
siles and their placement at
the Saudi air base at Tabuk
within easy flying distance
of Israel.
"At a time when all mod-
erate parties are reaching
toward peace," Stone said,
"it is paradoxical that either
through insufficient infor-
mation or faufty briefings,
the President and the Con-
gress might be led to make
an ill-advised decision
about these arms sales."
Stone also pointed out
that President Carter on

Feb. 8 said that Saudi
armed forces had never
participated actively in
fighting against Israel
and therefore there is lit-
tle /risk in selling Saudi
Arabia modern aircraft.
"This does not quite add
up," Stone' said. There are
widely circulated reports,
he said, that in fact Saudi
Arabia did send a brigade of
soldiers to the 'Golan
Heights to fight Israel in the
1973 war and they re-
mained until 1976.
"However,". Stone said,
"the more important ques-
tion is why should the U.S.
assist, or possibly induce,
Saudi Arabia to mount an
offensive risk to Israel now,
through the Hawk missiles
stationed at Tabuk and the
F-1.5s. If Saudi Arabia has
not in the past been deemed
a substantial offensive
threat to Israel, why should
the United States upset that
concept now?"

Meanwhile,
Panush, chairman of the

the Zionist Organization of
America - Detroit District,

proposed plane sales. •
TEL .AVIV — The Israel
Labor Ministry reported
that Israel had 126 strikes
in 1977, compared to 123 in-

workdays lost and far more
workers involved:
In 1976, 114,970 workers
were involved in strikes and
308,000 workdays were lost.
In 1977, 194,000 workers
were involved and 416,000
workdays lost.

Panush wrote to Car-
ter, Secretary of State
Cyrus Vance, and Michi-
gan's entire Congres-
sional delegation.
