Going?" The services will be
preceded by a Shabat dinner
at 6:30 p.m., under the au-,

Opens With Talk on Cults
Cong. Bnai David's insti-
tute for adult education will
begin its winter semester
8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the
synagogue. Theme for the
series of lectures will be
"Judaism in an Age of Cul-
tural Pluralism."

Eden will speak at the first
program on "We Are Losing
Our Children! — Jewish
Youth and the Cults."
The parents of, two

daughters, one of whom
was involved for five
years with the Unifica-
tion Church, the Edens
will speak on rescuing
their daughter and on the
existence of cults.
Parents, teenagers and
the public are invited free of

Music of Jewish Folk-Singers Delights
Temple Emanu-El Concert Audience
Jewish folk-singers Joe
and Penny Aronson opened
Temple Emanu-El's 1978
"Varieties of Music" concert
series last Sunday evening
with an entertaining and
enlightening performance
of folk songs about Jews in
America.
With heavy emphasis on
the Yiddish songs by and
about Jewish immigrants,
the Aronson's described in
song and narrative the
sweat shops and rise of the
labor movement; the
thoughts of Europe scrub-
bed clean of pogroms by the
passage of time; the Jew in
America.
The Aronsons, accom-
panying their singing on
guitar, mandolin and ac-
cordion, sang from the 18th
Century Sephardic liturgy,
early hymms of the Reform
movement, labor songs,
songs made famous by the
"Yiddish theater, including
"Yiddishe Mama" and
"Rozhinkes Mit Mandlen,"
and a medley from "Fiddler
on the Roof."
Following intermission
the couple sang folk
songs from Israel and the
U.S., including modern
Hasidic melodies.
The Temple Emanu-El
Combined Choirs and the
Tracy Twins (Eunice Rose
and Eudice Silberman) will
present the next concert in
the series 8 p.m. March . 12.

YMHA Grant
to Fight Crime
WASHINGTON (JTA) —
The Gustave Hartman
YM-YWHA in Far Rocka-
way in Queens is the reci-
pient of a $127,606 grant
from the Law Enforcement
Assistance Administration
of the Justice Department
to fight crime in the Rocka-
ways, according to Rep.
James Scheuer (D-NY).
Rep. Scheuer said the
anti-crime project will have
three elements. One will be
volunteer crime prevention
activities.
The second will be prog-
rams on the Buddy Buzzer
pattern, for mutual security
in high-rise, multi-family
buildings. He said this in-
volves installation of
switches connected to a buz-
zer or bell and located in one
or more adjacent apart-
ments. In case of attack, a
resident can call for help
from his neighborS by sim-
ply pressing the switch.
The third will be victims
assistance activities, in-
cluding providing advice,
help and referral. to such
agencies as health care
facilities -and the State
Crime Victim Compensa-
tion Board.
