I THEATERS IN ONE BE ILDING

Gurion's dictum that in
the post-1948 cir-
cumstances the only real
Zionists are Jews who
settle in Israel. At the
same time he points to the
relatively small number
of American Jews who
could qualify as Zionists
on the basis of their per-
sonal aliya.

Zionists have long con-
tended that Ben-Gurion did
inestimable harm in re-
legating the Zionist move-
ment in America to a secon-
dary position behind the
fund-raisers.

Mr. Smolar is also un-
just in his disparaging
dismissal of the Zionist
movement's public in-
formation function and
in identifying the Zionist
Organization of America
as "Linked to the Liberal

Party in Israel."

There were things wrong
with this Zionist Congress
election, but these things
were explored neither by
Mr. Smolar nor others in the
American Jewish press.
