On Sadat's pullout
from the Jerusalem
peace talks, Stoddard
remarked that the recall
of the Egyptian foreign
minister was due more to
_Sadat's feeling that Israel
was not responding to his
peace initiative in a
"positive manner,"
rather than Prime Minis-
ter Begin's controversial
toast.

Following Stoddard's re-
marks, the meeting was
turned over to questions
from the audience.

PHILIP STODDARD

Responding to a question
on Palestinian participa-
tion at possible Geneva
peace talks, Stoddard said
that Israel "seems to be
dragging its feet on the
Palestinian issue." He ad-
ded, however, that the Car-
ter Administration prefers Sl4/.11 , ( Wofocy- it5
not to see an independent
.114cez.zied
Palestinian state on the
West Bank and Gaza, but
rather an entity somehow
politically linked to Jordan.
Stoddard defended the
Administration's decision
to sell F-15 fighters to Saudi
Arabia, saying the planes
were important to the
Saudis, who may be
threatened by the current
military situation in the
horn of Africa.
Following his talk before
the Jewish Community
Council, Stoddard pro-
ceeded to a meeting with a
local Arab-American group.
