In 1804, Solomon Sulzer. was born there. At the age of 16 he became cantor of his native town and left six years later to accept the prestigious position as lead- ing cantor of Vienna's new, main synagogue, "The Seitenstaetten-Temple". Sulzer's baritone voice and musicianship won the admiration of Schubert and Liszt. In 1828, Schubert wrote for Sulzer the 92nd Psalm with the sub-title "Song for the Sabbath" to the original Hebrew text. Its first presentation took place at the Vienna Tem- ple in July, 1828 with Sulzer as soloist. This composition became part of the "Solomon Sulzer collection offlebrew Religi- ous songs Shir Zion" and was published in 1870 with the German text by Moses Mendelssohn. .- Sulzer died in 1890. For the past two years there were "Schubertiaden" (a sort of Schubert festival) presented in Hohenems, a small town in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg.
