LISTENING
POST

BRUCE SAPERS-
TEIN, a barrister himself,
and son of Kay and Jimmy
Saperstein, was telling dad
about being so busy . . . and
Jimmy jokingly remarked,
"For this I put you through
college? ... Like any profes-
sional father,- though, Jim
too probably hoped Bruce
would enter law practice
with him.
GREENFIELD PLA-
ZA, opening this year on
Greenfield 'and Nine Mile,
will have about 25 to 30
stores, including a couple of
restaurants . . . The Kroger
slated to open end of March
will be the chain's largest
market . . . and also include
a kosher meat department
. . . By June, all the stores
and restaurants should be ►
welcoming the publit.
RUBY - SAMSON at
Elkin Tours has two planes
going to Las Vegas for the
Sid Hudson City of Hope
Man of the Year Testimo-
nial Dinner, March 12, at
the Las Vegas Hilton .. .
Planes are from March
10-13 and March_ 12-16 .. .
Call him at. 358-5900 .. .
Your entire check, includ-
ing plane, room and dinner,
can be made out to City of
Hope.
CONGRATS . . . to Julie
Carr on her eighth birthday
. . . She is the daughter of
Anita and Sandy Carr.
SAM FIELD has com-
pleted a framed cartoon
mural which, according to
his brother Hank Field in
California, is- to be used on
buttons for folks to wear at
the Sid Hudson Testimonial,
It is of Sid as a golfer,
although he has never
handled a golf club in his
life . . . Sam is making
another one which Sid re-
quested, showing him with
cards coming out all over .
and the saying, "Anyone for
gin?"
BY THE TIME.this col-
umn comes out, Town &
Country Club on Southfield,
mostly probably will have
been sold to a combine of
community-ites.
MAY KATZ (Dr. Ben)
brought us up a bag of
bagels that son Gary Katz
and Chuck Bader. are bak-
ing in Eugene, Ore., at their
Humble Bagel Co.... Had a
couple and they're real
good.
The boys have expanded
their operations and are
now also baking halla,
which they sell every Fri-
day . . . plus cheese cake.
Crispiest-bit of all is that
Gary is going to marry the
baker of all these . . . Jill
Goldman, daughter of Dr.
and Mrs. Robert Goldman of
Portland. -
DETROIT FLORI-
DIANS .is name of group in
the Miami area ... started a
short while back by Betty
Steinberg who lives in the
sun with hubby Jules.
The group of ex-localites

has almost 100 members
and holds montialy„meet-
ings . . . usually with some
form of outside entertain-
ment.
Many folks going down to
Florida, even for a vacation,
will bump into people they
haven't seen in umteen
years . . . Call 947-0848
while down there and find
out if a meeting is
scheduled.
HERMAN FINK is ac-
tually a musician ... travels
with the Eddie Kendricks
18-piece group (Eddie was
lead singer 14 years with
the Temptations), playing
trumpet, flute, sax and
conga drums ... plus cutting
two albums . . . But his big
loves are a sideline ... mold-
ing jewelry, cutting stones
. . . and making people
happy.
MAIL DEPT . . . from
reader who wishes his name
be withheld .. . "Perhaps
you would be interested in
another viewpoint on Oak
Park's sign ordinance.- The
reasoning behind the ordi-
nance is simply to prevent
panic–selling and maintain
a stable community. No-
body in their right mind
would purchase a home in a
neighborhood filled with
"For Sale" signs and indeed
the home values 'go down in
such areas. If you had at-
tended council meetings
when this ordinance was
adopted you would have
seen the widespread com-
munity support it enjoyed.
"Yes, a few rights are lost
but the rights of the major-
ity of the city's residents to
enjoy a stable community
are protected. Any law
takes away my right to
speed. There is a law that
says I can't yell "Fire" in a
crowded theater. , All these
laws abridge a right in some
way."
STORE- IN BIRMIN-
GHAM is really strictly for
the kids . . . One corner is
entitled, "For mommies
only" ... It's Rainbow Lol-
lipop on Townsend St. . . .
geared toward youngsters
clothing from infants to size
10 . . . The racks are low so
the children can reach them
. . . and mirrors are hung at
kiddie height . . . There is a
playroom . . . and even the
music system has children's
tapes running on it.
IMAGINE 75 PER-
CENT OFF on everything
in the store This is what's
happening starting today at
Denim Headquarters, 10
Mile, just west of Lahser,
across from Southfield High
. . . Ann and Shirlee are cal-
ling it quits . . . and going
out of business . . . Even the
fixtures are for sale.

Even if the husband is a
wool-comber, his wife will
call to him to sit with her
upon the porch of their
home.
