Tiberias' Mineral Baths Are Still Famous

TEL AVIV—Tiberias is
famous in Jewish history as
the place of the grave of
Rabbi Meir Baal Naness,
who could allegedly perform
miracles. Some people still
believe they can be cured
from illnesses by praying at
his grave.
In Tiberias, also, is the
grave of the Rambam, who
died in Egypt and asked in
his testament that his body
be transferred to Tiberias.

NEW YORK — Philip
Sporn, the former president
of the American Power Co.
and one of the nation's lead-
ing contributors to the field
of electrical engineering,
died Jan. 23 at age 81. -
He received many awards
from engineering societies
and fraternities and honor-
ary doctorates from 10 in-
stitutions, including the
University of Grenoble in
France, Israel's Technion,
the Stevens Institute of
Technology and the Brook-
lyn•Polytechnic Institute.
