(Continued from Page 28)
For instance, there were
a couple of shows at Pine
Knob last summer that
many people didn't know
much about, so they didn't
bother going. You can be
sure they'll go next season
when these same per-
formers come back because
they got the word from
friends who were there that
the show was great.
The two who I'm espe-

cially referring to are Leo
Sayer and Boz Scaggs. I
haven't talked to one person
who didn't just love both of
those shoWs.
Sayer is a terrific, vibrant
performer. He's had hits
like "You Make Me Feel
Like Dancing," "When I
Need You" and "Long Tall
Glasses," and when he's on
stage, you can't take your
eyes off of him. He's in
constant motion and has
endless energy.
Boz Scaggs is an entirely
different type of performer.
He's mellow, laid-back and
also extremely talented. He
writes beautiful songs, the
most outstanding of which is

CARL STEGER

*1

"We're All Alone," now a
hit for Rita Coolidge.
His new album, "Down
Two Then Left" is already a
hot-seller and more and
more people are picking up
on him all the time. If you
hear that he's going to be in
town, get tickets early. He'll
sell out.
I wonder how many
people really loved "Close
Encounters of the Third
Kind" and how many just
SAY they loved it because
they thought that was the
thing to say.
At the press preview in
New York back in Novem-
ber, a lot of writers from
around the country were a
bit let down and dis-
appointed. "It's no 'Star
Wars' " I heard many of
them say, and some even
admitted being bored in
parts. The promotion behind
it has been — to say the
least — impressive. But I
just wonder how many
people got caught up in the
hype and are encouraging
others to see a movie that
they weren't really that
crazy about.
