purpose was "to enlighten
the community regarding
the legal and technical as-

In New York, hearings, in
the immigration case of Ba-
lislaus Maikovskis, accused
of murdering 14,000 Jews in
Latvia during World Warr
II, resumed in the Federal
Cburt House.
In Texas, a state appelate
court overturned a lower
court ruling banning Ameri-
can Nazi. Party telephone
messages offering $5,000 to.
anyone who kills a Jew or
non-white in the act of at-
tacking a white person.
The court called the mes-
sages "vicious, offensive
and repugnant" but said
Jewish TV personality Mar-
vin Zindler had nopersonal
basis to sue.
The court ruled that if the
messages were illegal pub-
lic authorities would have to
act.
In Tucson, Ariz., two ex-
perts in Jewish comnunity
relations expressed differ-
ing opinions on the signifi-
cance of recent Nazi party
activities in the U.S. But
both Dr. Seymour Weisman,
consultant for the Jewish
War Veterans of the U.S.A.
and Saul Sorrin, director of
the Milwaukee Jewish Coun-
cil, agreed that undue atten-
tion by the media had great-
ly inflated public, awareness
of the American N'azi Patty.
They spoke during the
four-day, annual plenary
session of the National Jew-
ish Community Relations
Advisory Council.
Sorrin said the Nazis are
deliberately seeking direct
confrontations with Jewish
communities, because the

channel the anger and emo-
tion into constructive re-
sponses which may have
educational value for the
whole community, and
which will not result in

said.
Weisman, disagreeing, re-
ferred to the situation in
Skokie, Ill., where the Nazis
planned to ,march in full
regalia through a neighbor-

Jewish Units Say Kadish for HHH
WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey
was eulogized at a Jewish
memorial service last week
in Yiddish terms as a
"mentsh" and with having
"a Yiddishe hartz" -and a
"Yiddishe nashoma" while
his contributions to civil
rights, social justice and
support of Israel were re-
membered with expressions
of love and respect by a
large number of men and
women who crowded the
Religious Action Center of
the - Union of American He-
brew Congregations.
The mourners joined Rab-

media turn out in strength
to cover the expected clash-
es. The Nazis then gain pub-
licity toally out of propor-
tion to their numbers or
their political significance,
he said. In his opinion, the
best course for the Jewish
community was to deny the
Nazis the _confrontations
which have led in the past to
great publicity windfalls.
Vice President Walter
Mondale, in a letter to
friends of the late Vice
President and Senator,
which was read by Hyman
Bookbinder, the Washington
representative of the Ameri-
can JeWish Committee who
led the service, said that "of
all the ways Hubert has
been remembered in recent
days, he would have espe-
cially appreciated this me-
morial service by the Amer-
ican Jewish community
with whom he was closely
bound."
Israeli Ambassador Sim-
ha Dinitz said "Humphrey
loved us not because of
what he wanted us to be but
what we are. - He recalled
Humphrey telling him,
"You are fighting with your
life for those things that we
take for granted."
