Dr. Rosenbaum, 29

Dr. Robert William Rose-
nbaum, a resident in psy-
chiatry at H.C. Moffet Hos-
pital in San Francisco,
Calif., died Jan. 13 at age
29.
Dr. Rosenbaum, a former
Detroiter, attended the Uni-
versity of Michigan's- medi-
cal school, prior to his asso-
ciation with the hospital.
He is survived by his wife,
Debbie; and his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Eli (Doris)
Rosenbaum of Oak Park.

cation received scant atten-
tion.
Turning to Hadassah's
role as a women's organiza-
tion, Mrs. Tannenbaum
said, "we must begin to
examine our role as the
single most active, signifi-
cant movement of Jewish
women in America.
"We are concerned about
serious issues and questions
posed by the general wom-
en's movement-in this coun-
try — serious in the sense
that such issues as equal
pay for equal work are as
fully relevant to Hadassah
women as to our non-Jewish
sisters with whom we share
American society.
"Creative and full op-
portunities for all people re-
gardless of sex, race or reli-
gion are concerns of

everyone who wants to bet-
ter this nation."

However, she continued,
"our participation in the
women's movement is
guided by the fact that Ha-
cinssah cuts across the spec-
trum of American Jewish
women's thinking and reli-
gious conviction.

"We remember, also, that
it is Zionism that brings us
together under the roof of
Hadassah, and that no non-
Zionist issue can be allowed
to disrupt the marvelous
unity of purpose that we
have achieved."

In a related vein, Mrs.
Tannenbaum said, Hadas-
sah is - concerned about the
changing status of the Jew-
ish family and families in
general.

Dayan: Italian Power Struggle
Won't Hurt Ties With Israel

ROME (JTA) — The re-
sults obtained by Israeli
Foreign Minister Moshe
Dayan on his visit to Italy
and the Vatican last week
are unlikely to be affected
by the collapse of the Italian
government in the power
struggle between the Chris-
tian Democrats and the
Communists.
During his visit to Italy,
Dayan told guests at a din-
ner given by Italian Foreign
Minister Arnaldo Forlani
that Europeans should stop
intervening on the Arab side
in the Middle East dispute
and should - let the parties
involved work out a peace
agreement by themselves.
Dayan also said he believ-
ed Pope Paul VI had accept-
ed the Israeli solution to the
Palestinian question put for-
ward by Dayan at their
meeting. This is based on
UN Security Council Resolu-
tions 242 and 338 and dis-
cussions between Egypt; Is-
rael, Jordan and moderate
West Bank and Gaza repre-
sentatives.
Dayan included Italian
Communist leaders in his
rounds of talks.
He met at various times
Communist Central Com-
mittee members Sergio
Segre, who is Jewish, shad-
ow Foreign Minister Gian-
carlo Pajetta and theo-
retician Giorgio Napolitano.
They were fully briefed on
Israel's views.
The Italian Communist
Party record on the Middle
East has been generally
pro-Arab or pro-Palestinian
— but it has stayed free of
an outright condemnation of
Israel.
Dayan spoke with the
Pope, the Vatican issued a
written communique ex-
pressing its wishes for "a
rapid reconciliation of all
the peoples in the Middle
East" and its own readiness
to help in reaching peace.

Dayan is the first high-
level Israeli to meet the

Pope since Golda Meir's
visit in January 1973 when
she was Israel's premier.
Last week's audience was
marked by the lack of ten-
sion and strain which char-
acterized the 1973 meeting.

In his address to Dayan,
the Pope did not mention
the Palestinian problem and
made no concrete sugges-
tions on Jerusalem 'besides
expressing - the fervent
hope for a solution that will
not only satisfy the legiti-
mate aspirations of those
concerned, but also take
into account the pre-emi-
nently religious character of
the Holy City. -

The Pope, in a written
address which he read to
Dayan in English, added:
"We, therefore, trust that
the proposal several times
put forward by the Holy
See, in view of the spiritual
greatness of Jerusalem, will
be seen as a positive contri-
bution to such a solution."

-

Vatican sources say the
"proposal" means the adop-
tion of - a special status for
Jerusalem with inter-
national guarantees. The
Vatican has never spelled
out what this special status
should mean. It is generally
believed the Vatican would
want recognition of special
rights for the Catholic
church, freedom of access
to the holy places and a
certain degree of autonomy
for the administration of
Catholic institutions there.

Israeli sour
. ces said after
the meeting that Dayan in-_
formed the Pope on recent
developments in the Middle
Fast I as a result of the new
peace process. Dayan, the
sources said, also told the
Pope that Israel has and
will continue to scrupulous-
ly respect religious free-
dom, especially with regard
to the holy places.

He said the Pope did not
mention a special status, for
Jerusalem during their, talk.
