Woman Wins Suit
Against Employer
to Observe Faith

NEW YORK (JTA)—An
observant Jewish woman
fired by a Manhattan bank
for indicating she needed
time off for Rosh Hashana
has won a double-barreled
legal victory—she received
jobless pay over the bank's
opposition while unem-
ployed and has been rehired
by the bank, according to
the National Jewish Com-
mission on Law and Public
Affairs.
Mrs. Molly Bornstein of
Brooklyn was fired last Au-
gust by the West Side Fed-
eral Savings and Loan Asso-
ciation after her notification
to the bank she could not
work on the two days and on
Yom Kippur.
Sidney - Kwestel, COLPA
president, said she was
reinstated on Dec. 19, after
bank officials notified COL-
PA they wanted to settle the
matter, declaring that Mrs.
Bornstein's dismissal was
the result of "unfortunate
and compounded misunder-
standings."
