It • Philip Cutler, Pioneer Zionist Philip J. Cutler, a pioneer Zionist whose activities date back to the days of Theodor Herzl, died in Chicago Jan. 11, four days before his 90th birthday. Born in Russia, Mr. Cutler lived most of his life in Detroit. He also resided in Port Huron and was involved in Zionist activities in both communities. Mr. Cutler held several positions in the Zionist Organization of Detroit and was a life member of the Zionist Organization of America. He was an active leader in Israel Bonds, the Jewish National Fund and Jewish educational circles. He was a half-century member of the United Hebrew Schools and Cong. Shaarey Zedek. He was a jeweler before securing an agency for the Kayser-Frazer Motor Co. in Ypsilanti. He then. entered the real estate business from which he retired 15 years ago. • Mr. Cutler was descended from a 'family of rabbis. His father, Rabbi B.N. Kotler wrote a widely acclaimed Bible commentary.
