"Mistaken judgment" is
admitted by Remer Tyson
on the manner in which he
treated the Henry Ford
background relating to
charges about an "inter-
national Jewish con-
spiracy."
Tyson's article on
Tuesday aroused in-
dignation. He expressed
regret over the misuse of
the terms which, Jewish
protesters pointed out to
him, renews one of the most
libelous charges made by
anti-Semites.
In his column prepared
for publication on Thursday,
Tyson, conceding that what
he had written Was "mistak-
en judgment," wrote:
"In Tuesday's Free Press,
I wrote about the irony of
history, that in 1923, 'Henry
Ford, exposed the inter-
national Jewish conspiracy,
was talked about as a pos-
sible Presidential candi-
date, but that soon passed.
Mahatma Gandhi was in an
Indian prison reading the
Koran and re-reading the
Bible. Adolph Hitler was
slapped into a Bavarian
prison where he was writing
a book. There were bread
lines in Berlin.'
"Some Jewish leaders
were upset by the first sen-
tence in the paragraph, as-
serting that it perpetuated
the false belief that an inter-
national Jewish conspiracy
exists.
"If it did perpetuate that
belief, it was a mistake in
-judgment by me to have

written the sentence that
way. Ford's publications in
the early 1920s about 'the
Jewish conspiracy' were
fully discredited, even by
him in a public statement. I
don't believe in the exist-
ence of an international
Jewish conspiracy, and it
seemed to me that the sen-
tence only illuminated one
of the tragic absurdities of
the era.
"But Jewish leaders say
that belief is still the staple
of hate peddlers. How little
we have changed in some
respects."
