George Pierrot Birthday The 80th birthday of world traveller arml raconteur George Pierrot will be cele- brated at a fund-raiser for the Detroit Institute of Arts, 6 p.m. Wednesday at the DIA. Pierrot created and has produced his World Adven- ture Series at the DIA since 1933 to aid the institute. Pierrot came to Detroit from Seattle in 1922 to be an associate editor of Business Magazine. From 1924-36 he edited The American Boy - Youth's Companion Maga- zine. At the urging of Ethel Ford he created the World Adventure Series at the DIA as a fund-raising effort and in 1948 the series began on television. Pierrot was active in Christian movements in support of the Jewish Na- tional Home in Palestine and his World Adventure Series helped expose the Nazis and Russian anti- Semitism. The birthday party theme is a mid-winter Hawaiian extravaganza with contin- uous, live stage shows brought from Hawaii, three showings of the film "Hawaii : The Picture Is- lands;" free Hawaiian drinks and snacks; and dancing.
