Fund-Raiser to Honor. George Pierrot Birthday

The 80th birthday of world
traveller arml raconteur
George Pierrot will be cele-
brated at a fund-raiser for
the Detroit Institute of Arts,
6 p.m. Wednesday at the
DIA.

Pierrot created and has
produced his World Adven-
ture Series at the DIA since
1933 to aid the institute. The
birthday party in his honor
will raise funds for the in-
stitute and also mark the

series.
Pierrot came to Detroit
from Seattle in 1922 to be an
associate editor of Business
Magazine. From 1924-36 he
edited The American Boy -
Youth's Companion Maga-
zine.
At the urging of Ethel
Ford he created the World
Adventure Series at the DIA
as a fund-raising effort and
in 1948 the series began on
television.
Pierrot was active in
Christian movements in
support of the Jewish Na-
tional Home in Palestine
and his World Adventure
Series helped expose the
Nazis and Russian anti-
Semitism.
The birthday party theme
is a mid-winter Hawaiian
extravaganza with contin-
uous, live stage shows
brought from Hawaii, three
showings of the film
"Hawaii : The Picture Is-
lands;" free Hawaiian
drinks and snacks; and
dancing.

VIENNA (JTA)—An exhi-
bition on • the life of East
European Orthodox Jews
tries to revive customs and
atmosphere in the shtetl of
the past. The Austrian Eth-
nographicaliMuseum in Kit-
tsee Palace shows exhibits
to inform visitors of the
situation of Orthodox Jews
in the eastern parts of the
former Austro-Hungarian
monarchy.
The exhibition, which
opened earlier this year, is
planned as a preview show
for a large-scale exhibition
on the life of Jews in the
Middle Ages, which will
open in the former ghetto in
Eisenstadt next spring.
Among exhibits to be seen

knives. Hanuka chandeliers
and pictures of everyday
life in the shtetl.

Ismailia and lived there un-
til her family moved to
Cairo in 1937. She married
Eban and moved to Pales-
tine in 1945, and never has
been back since then.
