In 1976, in order that their son receive a full English and Jewish education, the Borisutes sent Paul to live with his grandmother while attend- ing an Orthodox Jewish school in England. However, -Mrs. Borisute -said, "My inquiries to all the organizations for the blind and partially sighted in England (concerning Paul's preparation for Bar Mitzva ) were fruitless." One day, while visiting Ox- ford and thinking of how to _solve Paul's problem, Mrs. Borisute spent some time browsing in a book - store when "completely by acci- dent I found the name and address of your organizaiton in a book called the "Second Jewish Earth Catalog." Upon hearing from his mother, the Jewish Braille Institute of America sent to Paul as a gift the complete Sabbath prayerbook in four large-type Hebrew and Eng- lish volumes, his large-type Haftara reading including his prayers for putting on tefilin and for before and after reading from the To- rah and the Haftara. The JBI has all 67 differ- ent weekly Sabbath portions of the prophets and Torah available in Braille and in large type to send to any blind or–partially sighted Bar or Bat Mitzva. The Jewish Braille In- stitute provides for the cul- tural and religious needs of the Jewish blind and serves many thousands of sightless and partially sighted per- sons throughout the world with out charge. JBI has the largest private library of Braille volumes and tapes. It also publishes the "Jew- ish Braille Review" and is- sues Hebre-w-Engligh Braille prayerbooks and the Bible in Hebrew Braille. Oldest Zionist Weekly Closes LONDON (JTA)—The Jewish Observer and Middle Fast Review, the world's oldest Zionist weekly paper, closed down last week be- cause of lack of funds. The organ of the Zionist Federation of Great Britain first appeared more than 60 years ago under the title "Zionist Review." It was given it present name in 1952. The demise of the paper followed the withdrawal of a direct subsidy by the Jewish Agency, in Jerusalem, which had kept it in business for the past three years. Previously, it had been largely financed by a- block subscription by the Joint Is- rael Appeal. The ending of the block_ subscription caused the circulation to be cut from- more. than 12,000 copies a week to about 4,000. Some of the outstanding figures in Zionism had been associated with the Review. The paper opened in May 1917 on the instigation of Dr. Chaim Weizmann, then president of the British Zi- onist Fedifation. Sir Leon _Simon, a close _friend of Weizmann, was the first editor. Later editors included Paul Goodman, the Rev. Maurice Perlzweig, Moshe Pearlman and Dr. S. Levenberg. In announcing the' closing of the paper, the Zionist Federation said they hope to bring out a monthly maga-" zhie in the middle of 1978, concentrating on ideological articles rather than news analysis. Begin, Sadat Cited BEERSHEBA, (JTA)- Premier Menahem Begin of Israel and President Anwar Sadat of Egypt were named by the Ben-Gurion Univer- sity of the Negev recipients of the first Ben-Gurion Uni- versity Amity Award for "outstanding contribution toward understanding be: tween the peoples of - the Middle East." Nessim Gaon, chairman of the university's board of governors who accompanied the Israeli delegation to the peace talks in Ismailia, was asked in a cable from uni- versity president Yosef Te- koah to personally notify the recipients. Feelings that don't show on the face lie on the heart. AJCongress Asks Oil Tax Reversal NEW YORK—The Ameri- can Jewish Congress has urged Secretary of the Treasury W. Michael Blu- menthal to reverse a 1955 'ruling allowing royalties paid by U.S. oil companies to foreign governments to be treated as "taxes" for which full income tax credit may be claimed in the United States. In a letter to Secretary Blumenthal, Rabbi Arthur Hertzberg, president of the Congress, said: "This ruling has encour- aged the diversion of enormous -revenues to for- eign governments and fa- vored oil entrepreneurs, revenues that normally and -- more justly should have ac- crued to the U.S.- Treasury. It has resulted in a gross distortion and misallocation of the economic burden which must be shouldered by the people of this coun- try.'' Sadat Makes Top 1977 News Story: NEW YORK (JTA)— Egyptian President Anwar Sadat's electrifying visit to Jerusalem in November and the beginning of Egyptian- Israeli talks in search of Middle East- peace was rated the top head-line story of 1977 by American editors, according to the magazine, Editor and Publisher, the news media's trade maga- zine. Another top story was the Hanafi Moslem sect's occu- pation of three Washington buildings last March.
