• Danny Raskin's LISTENING POST HOWDY 1978 ... here's wishing everyone the very best of health and happiness in the new year. About our wishes from last year ... "something final- ly being done about a light at Northgate Blvd. and Greenfield plus paving of the street on the east side of Greenfield" (light has been I put up, but Royal Oak Township still ignores the dangerous stones). "Writers of letters to us signing their names—won't be used if we're told not to" (mail dept. .has improved ' tremendously) ... "People putting their carts back on the sidewalk at super- markets instead of leaving '-i them to smack other cars or take up parking spaces" (some are doing it plus many who had to suffer first) ... "Walking out of a supermarket with a lot of groceries for $20 instead of a small bag full (it's $30 now and even the bags have gotten thinner)... "The Detroit Tigers pro- ving that money doesn't buy everything and winning the pennant right out from un- der the noses of clubs who spent millions trying to cap- ture one" (those Yankee bucks won everything ex- cept a good manager ) ... "Somebody devising some- thing for people to look at in elevators instead . of the passing floor numbers above (great idea if some- body would come up with something—cute gals in T-7-- 9ywell Bldg. make it ., y d of interesting thb-ugh)... "Men wearing skirts until some women stop wearing slacks (it's even more amazing how some of these gals can get into them!) ... People not making pigs of themselves by stuffing boxes _b_f goodies from sweet tables at weddings and Bar Mitzvas (the people are 'us- ing bags now, too) ... Doc- tors who are -too busy, - remembering why they went to med school in the first place (more than one said they did it for mom or ( dad) ... -Animal owners not walking dogs on people's grass and stopping them for some -relief" (the grass is still greener elsewhere)... "Gas station employees who think they're mechan- ics sticking to pumping gas" (smart station owners now hire kids to put the gas in) ... "Some motorists hav- ing their horn toy taken away from them" (against the law). WHY WAIT FOR THE ac- tual day say Janice and Manny Friedman, who will celebrate their 25th anniver- sary in June ... They believe in doing things now and will whoopie the occasion with a Caribbean cruise Jan. 21. BOB GOLDMAN of Bob's Traveling Market had his taste of show business while in Las Vegas, and wishes his Oak Park store had in- door floodlights so he could do a song or two under proper conditions for cus- tomers. At the Riviera Hotel, Tony Orlando called Bob up to the stage ... slapped each other around a bit ... and sang together "Hava Na- gela", an Italian number and -Roll Out The Barrel - ... Then Tony and the or- chestra left him on stage all alone with hat and cane. All told, Bob was on stage with Tony for 25 minutes, so don't be surprised now if you walk into his market and see him do a dance ... or slide- the musical scale with a tune or two ... Just so long as he doesn't start juggling eggs or tossing pies, Bob will always have an audience.
