Entertainer Joey Adams Blasts UN
in Letter Defending Israel's Rights

(Editor's note : Comedian
Joey Adams has not only
had a successful career in
the entertainment field, but
is recognized as being ac-
tive in tasks for the defense
of Jewish rights. Following
is a sample of his efforts.)

From: Joey Adams
To: The UN—Useless Na-
tions Organization
Subject : An open letter

r Useless:
Goliath tried to deny the
right of the tribes of Israel
to live. Then Hitler tried to
deny the right of the Jewish
people to live. For 30 years
the Arabs have tried to deny
the right of the Jewish state
to live. Now that we've got
Egypt and Israel together,
the giant against us is the
United Nations.

Begin and Sadat are
meeting face to face, but
the United Nations is cen-
suring Israel. For the first
time in 30 years there's a
prayer of peace in the
Middle East, but the United
Nations is censuring Israel.
Israel is attacked on the day
of Yom Kippur when its
citizens are praying in the
synagogue and the United
Nations brands Israel the
aggressor. With what were
they aggressors? Could they
shoot with their Bibles? Did
they have ammunition in
their prayer shawls ? But
the United Nations censured
Israel!

What are these guys doing
over there on the East Riv-
er? What do they do h9re in
our town (New York) any-
way? Besides freeloading at
every cocktail party, park-
ing illegally at every fire
hydrant between here and
downtown Newark and eat-
ing up the city's money in
protection and free serv-
ices, what is it these bums
do besides censure Israel?

Only recently people
everywhere were looking to
Jerusalem and Cairo for the
maiden voyage of the DONT
of Peace. It was the first
flutter of hope out of the
Middle East in three dec-
ades. We saw Sadat lean
over to kiss Golda. We saw
Israelis wave Egyptian
flags. We saw thousands of
Muslims welcome back
.heir leader after a journey
no one would have dreamed
possible days before.

Meanwhile, the anachro-
nistic Useless Nations
creaked along its archaic
way seeing nothing, hearing
nothing and solving nothing.
On Nov. 25, five days after
the Sadat visit, the UN Gen-
eral Assembly over-
whelmingly passed yet an-
other anti-Israel resolution.
This time it condemned Is-
rael for occupying Arab
lands.
The UN is getting senile

in its old age. It promotes
anti-democratic ideas to
weaken Western civ-
ilization. It tries to under-
mine the legitimacy of the
only democratic state in the
Middle East which also hap-
pens to be the strategic ally
of the symbol of Western
civilization, the United
States. It abets bigots the
world over and particularly
in the Soviet Union by its
passage of the 1975 Zionism-
is-racism resolution which
serves as a justification for
anti-Semitism.
- to justify its existence the
UN should encourage con-
tacts between Israelis and
Arabs on all levels — gov-
ernmental, economic, cul-
tural. It should encourage
potentially moderate Arab
states to follow Egypt's lead
leaving the radicals with the
choice of moderation or iso-
lation. Above all, it must
stop pandering to the terror-
ist organizations which hi-
jack planes, which murder
Olympic athletes, which
bomb innocent women and
children in supermarkets
and which rule out the pos-
sibility of peace as long as
Israel exists.
Et tu, UN? The Jews have
been pushed out of every
corner of the world. They've
been attacked, persecuted,
burned and killed in Poland,
Bulgaria, Russia, Romania,
Hungary, Germany and
points East and West. It
took 5,000 years but they
have a country of their own.
They paid for it with their
money as well as their
lives—and you want to take
it away from them? Well,
you can't do it. You cannot
trade Jewish blood for Arab
oil.
Now is the time for this
kept mistress of the world
to show she hasn't outlived
her usefulness. Now is the
time for the UN to rise up
and speak for reason, cow •
promise and moderatioL..
Now is the time for the UN
to show if it's worth a
damn. You dragged your
feet on censuring hijacking,
but you were quick to cen-
sure Israel. You dragged
your feet in praising Sadat,
but you were quick to pro-
tect the rights of the Pales-
tinians. Okay... but
now...now...stand up before
it's too late.
With or without this inter-

national Tinker Toy on the
Fast River, let US back
President Sadat and Prime
Minister Begin in their bid
for peace. If we are suppor-
tive rather than negative, if
we give them our blessing
rather than our hating, who
knows, with Isaiah we, too,
might see the day when,
"The wolf also shall dwell
with the lamb—and the
leopard shall lie down with
the kid—and the calf and
the young lion and fatling
together."

JNF SABBATH, SATURDAY, JANUARY 21
TU B'SHEVAT, New Year of Trees, January 23

Plant Trees, for all Occasionp

TASKS DURING ISRAEL'S 30th ANNIVERSARY YEAR
and Detroit JNF's 60th Anniversary

❑ To avow full solidarity with the State of Israel in its period of stress.
oTo focus attention on 76 years of Jewish National Fund activities in building
the land of Israel and securing the future of the State of Israel.
oTo stress the fact that JNF is a major contributor in improving and maintaining
the quality of Israel's environment. JNF fights desolation, decay, waste and
wilderness.
oTo reclaim more land for outposts in the most vulnerable areas.
oTo encourage inscriptions in the Honor Roll of the Jewish People - the Golden
Book in Jerusalem.
❑ To place another thousand JNF Blue Boxes, the symbol of a nation reborn, in
Greater Detroit and Michigan Jewish homes.
oTo plant more trees in Israel. Israel needs more trees. Trees represent the
rekindled strength and lifeblood of the land.
oTo remind Jews to remember JNF in their Wills, thus not only linking their
names forever with the land of Israel, but that their legacy will help ALL of
Israel.

We also ask you, your children and grandchildren to share in a unique and truly meaningful and
especially significant project - a gift from JNF to Israel on its 30th anniversary - the planting of the
"Children's Forest, in the Galilee and on Yad Vashem's Remembrance Hill, in memory of the
Jewish children who perished in the Holocaust.
We have before us a colossal task. The JNF is now called upon to strengthen existing positions and
to prepare a new wave of land settlements so vital for the future of Israel.
