DETROIT .JEWISH '_NEWS 'Friday; 'Decenitide2-1, 4977765 Union Leader Louis Stulberg Dies, Led Garment Workers NEW YORK (JTA) — Louis Stulberg, president of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) from 1966 to 1975, died Dec. 14. at age 76. Born in Poland, he was brought to Toronto at age 3. He became a cutter as a teenager, but had to leave Toronto when he was black- listed for union activities. Mr. Stulberg went first to Chicago and then to Toldeo, Ohio, where he began his activities in the ILGWU as an organizer in Toledo and the Midwest. After holding many union offices he joined the ILGWU's general staff in 1945 as assistant executive secretary and was elected a vice president in 1947. In 1956, he became execu- tive vice president and was elected secretary-treasurer in 1959. He was elected pres- ident in 1966 after David Dubinsky resigned. Mr. Stulberg had been a vice president of the AFL- CIO and was a United States representative to the United Nations. He was a fellow of Brandeis Univer- sity and was a member of HIAS, the National Com- mittee for Labor Israel and American ORT. Dr. Morris Wayne LOUIS STULBERG Allen Sherwin, 67 Allen Sherwin, founder and president since 1952 of Economy Products, Inc., of Lapeer, died Dec. 16 at age 67. Born in Hamilton, On- tario, Mr. Sherwin was a member of the Furniture Club of Detroit, the National Association of Bedding Manufacturers and the Lap- eer Chamber of Commerce. He resided at 3050 Glouches- ter, Troy. He leaves his wife, Sarah; a son, Harry S. of Flint; a daughter, Mrs. Manly (Frances) Ross; his father, Meyer Chertkoff of Ham- ilton; two brothers, Nathan of Toronto and Manny of Flint; and three grand- children. 'Sadie Michelman Sadie Michelman, a pian- ist, volunteer and member of Jewish communal organi- zations, died Dec. 19 at age 95. Born in New York Mrs. Michelman was a member of A _ dat Shalom Synagogue and its sisterhood and Ha- dassah. Donald J. Freed Donald Jay Freed, an accountant with a Detroit attorneys' office, died Dec. 19 at age 35. He was born in Detroit March 7, 1942. He resided at 25541 Colleen, Oak Park. He is survived by his wife, Judith; his father, Sidney; and a brother, Jerry C. _Dr. Morris A. Wayne, a retired physician, died Dec. 20 at age 78. Born in Russia, Dr. Wayne lived 68 years in Detroit. He was a general practitioner in Detroit since 1924, retiring four years ago. He was a member of Temple Israel. A World War I Army veteran, Dr. Wayne was graduated from the Wayne University Medical School in 1924. Dr. Wayne leaves his wife, Ruth; a son, Bruce; a brother, Dr. Max Wainger of Pompano Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Samuel (Esther) Coggan and Mrs. Maurice (Dena) Starr; and two granddaughters. Moshe Rolnik, Yiddish Poet RIO DE JANEIRO (JTA)—Moshe Rolnik, a Yiddish poet active in the Jewish cultural life in Bra- zil, is dead at age 65. Born in Poland, he came to Parish before World War II where he was a teacher in a Jewish school and lec- tured in West European Jewish communities on Yiddish literature. He escaped from Paris when the Nazis invaded France and came to the United States after the war where he worked for the Jewish Encyclopedia. Mr. Rolnik came to Brazil in 1951. Rose Keywell, 84 Rose Keywell, past presi- dent of the Malaver Un Gegend Verein and a mem- ber of Detroit Chapter of Bnai Brith, died Dec. 21 at age 84. Born in Austria, Mrs. Keywell resided 18533 Addi- son, Southfield. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Beatrice) Levin of Tama- rac, Fla., Mrs. Arthur (Mildred) Weingarden of Windsor and Mrs. Abraham (Charlotte) Burnstein; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
