NEW YORK A two-part
program to bring to the at-
tention of Reform congrega-
tions the increasing number
of women rabbis who soon
will be seeking pulpits has
been launched by the Cen-
tral Conference of Ameri-
can Rabbis.
According to Rabbi Ely
E. Pilchik, president of the
CCAR, and Rabbi Sally
Priesand, chairwoman of
the CCAR's Task Force on
Women in the Rabbinate,
women rabbinical students
will be attending various re-
gional seminars of the
CCAR to enable them to
hold candid discussions with
rabbis on women in the rab-
binate. Also planned is a
summer internship program
for the women rabbinic stu-
dents.
The two rabbinic leaders
pointed out there are no
six women rabbis in Amer-
ica and that the Hebrew
Union College-Jewish In-
stitute of Religion will grad-
uate four women this June,
and 11 the following year.
However, 30 percent of
those recently entering rab-
binic classes at HUC-JIR
were women.
