Gordon, spiritual leader of Young Israel Center of OakWoods, has accepted the post of Midwest co-chairman of the National Rabbinic Cabinet of State of Israel Bonds, it was announced by National Chairman Rabbi Leon Kron- ish. Returning to Detroit after attending the recent annual meeting of the Cabinet at the national headquarters in New York City, Rabbi Gor- don reported that plans to expand economic aid to Is- rael in_1978, the year of the 30th anniversary of Israel's independence, were mapped by the more than 35 rabbin- ic cabinet members who will participate in this year's effort for Israel's economic development pro- gram. Cabinet members are from all sections of the United States and Canada, and represent the Orthodox, Conservative and Reform branches of Judaism. Rabbi Gordon's colleagues in the midwest are Rabbi Herman E. Schaalman of Emanuel Congregation, Chicago, chairman; Rabbi Fishel J. Goldfeder of K.K. Adath Is- rael Congregation, Cincin- nati, co-chairman; and Rab- bi Shubert Spero of Young Israel of Cleveland, co- chairman. Rabbi Gordon is a former national vice president and New York State region pres- ident of the Rabbinic Coun- cil of America; former na- tional president of the American Association Cor- rectional Chaplains; a past member of the Rabbinic Ad- visory Council—UJA; founder and immediate past chairman of the education committee of Akiva Hebrew Day School and past chair- man of the Synagogue and School Section of the Jewish Welfare Federation. Rabbi Gordon is the im- mediate past president of the Religious Zionists of De- troit (Mizrachi) and former editor of the Rabbinic Coun- cil's sermon manual.
