The atrocities of the concentration camps, ac- cording to the book, were carried out by other sec- tions of the SS. But Alexander Bernfes, consultant to Poland's Cen- tral Commission on War Crimes, said: "What about the Warsaw Ghetto—was that a front line? "The extermination of the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto in 1943 was carried out largely by the Waffen SS." "These 'elite front-line troops' were called in to murder innocent women and children and shoot down unarmed men," Bernfes said. "They were the ones who set fire to the buildings and flooded sewers to drive the Jews out of their sanctuary so they could be shipped off to the death camps of Auschwitz and Treblinka. "In his daily reports on the destruction of the War- saw Ghetto, SS Brigadier- General Jurgen Stroop, who led the operation, mentions the composition of the troops' under his com- mand," Bernfes added. "Day after day, his re- cords show that by far the largest section of his forces—about 65 percent— comprised Waffen SS troops. These records were used against Stroop in his trial at Nuremberg." Britain had allowed entry to three former SS colonels who came to launch pub- lication of the book, how- ever, the British govern- ment later expelled them. In the meantime, letters editors of two London pa- pers, The Guardian and The Observer, have sent letters of apology to a Jewish army officer, Major David Spec- tor, for running advertise- ments for the SS book. Both editors said that the ads had slipped by normal editorial controls and they expressed regret of the pub- lication of the advertise- ments. Oi ftlle e °i .t As `to,010. It is the first time the courts have been called on to outlaw a political party in Holland on the basis of the civil code which forbids or- ganizations whose goals or activities are contrary to public order and ethical be- havior. The party, established two years ago, is not specifically anti-Semitic. Its leader, Joop Glimmerveen of The Hague has directed its ac- tivities mainly against the influx of black workers and their families into Holland from Surinam, formerly Dutch Guiana. It also propa- gandizes against Turks and other emigre laborers. Last May, the Minister of Justice, replying to ques- tions by two labor members of Parliament, promised that the judicial authorities would act against the Vol- ksunie. Glimmerveen said that if the District Court moves against his party, he will appeal to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. Advance Fashion Ltd.
