"Life", Phillips photograph-
ed the struggle for control
of Jerusalem's Jewish Old
Quarter. In 1976 he returned
to Jerusalem and, at the
urging of Mayor Teddy Kol-
lek, (who has contributed an
introduction to the second
half of the book) Phillips
began a search for some of
the faces captured in those
original photographs.

He found more than 50
persons, rephotographed
them and got the story of
what happened to them on
that eventful day and in the
intervening years.
