Inventor Peter Goldmark , 71

NEW YORK—Peter Gold-
mark Sr., 71, inventor of the
long-playing record and the
first practical color tele-
vision, died Wednesday
from injuries suffered in an
automobile crash.
A native of Hungary, Mr.
Goldmark joined CBS Labs
in
and was responsible
fo
)re than 150 inventions
in the fields of acoustics,
television and film
production.
Starting at CBS Labs with
one assistant and a single
room, he served as director
of research and devel-
opment for three decades.
When he retired in 1971 at
the mandatory age-of 65, he
had a staff of 500 people.

He developed the world's
first practical color tele-
vision in 1940 and the first
long-playing microgroove
recording in 1948, an inven-

er of B and C Super Mar-
kets, died Nov. 30 at age 78.
Born in Russia, Mr.
Chodoroff helped start the
company in 1925 and left the
business in 1957.
He was a member and
honorary board member of
Cong. Bnai David, past
president of Cong. Beth
Achim. and a member of
Hannah Schloss Oldtimers,
Oddfellows, Pisgah Lodge of
Bnai Brith and the Zionist
Organization of America.
He resided at 16190 Cumber-
land, Southfield.
He leaves his wife, Es-
ther; a son, Dr. Edward of
Van Nuys, Calif. ; two
daughters, Mrs. Howard
(Rebecca) Emmer and
Mrs. Gerald (Beatrice)
Taines of Ft. Lauderdale,
Fla; a brother, Joseph; two
sisters, Mrs. Max (Dora)

Katy Rubin, 83

Katy Rubin, an active
member of Jewish aid and
welfare societies, died Dec.
6 at age 83.
Born in Poland, Mrs. Ru-
bin lived 65 years in Detroit..
She was a member of Rado-

Women and Bialystoker Aid
Society. She was the co-
owner with her late husband
of Sam's Loan Office on
Michigan Ave. in Detroit. -

derhill, Fla., and Mrs. Louis
(Shirley) Gold; a brother in
Johannesburg, South Af-

Florida, Robert M. Fogel

Dr. Harry H. Kay, a for-
mer Detroit physician, died
Nov. 25 in Calabasas Park,
Calif., at age 70.
Dr. Kay was graduated
from Wayne State Univer-
sity and its medical school.
He practiced medicine 12
years in Detroit, prior to
serving in the U.S. Armed
Forces. He moved his fam-
ily to Los Angeles in 1944
and practiced in the Los
\ngeles area until March of
this year.
He is survived by a son,
James of Columbia, Md.;
two daughters, Valerie Er-
vin of Beverly Hills, Calif.,
and Mrs. Jerome (Anita)
Weiss of Calabasas Park;
and five grandchildren.

Detroit, died Dec. 6. Sur-
vived by a sister, Mrs.
Barney (Dora) Shimm of
Brooklyn, N.Y. Interment
New York.

In 1965 he spearheaded
the development of elec-
tronic video recording,
which allows an ordinary
television set to be used as a
movie screen on which car-
tridge films can be shown.

Jacob M. Stein

Jacob M. Stein, a retired
bookbinder, died Dec. 2 at
age H.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa.,
Mr. Stein had been retired
for 20 years. He was a
member of The Golden Age
Club, the Jewish Commu-
nity Center and was a for-
mer member of the Temple
Israel and Borman Hall
choirs.
He leaves two daughters,
Mrs. Aaron (Ruth) Blake
and Mrs. Emanuel (Shirley)
Ravet; a brother, Hyman of
Pittsburgh; eight grand-
children and one great-
grandchild.

His business was closed
upon his death.
He leaves his wife, Del-
